Given how inexpensive turkeys are this time of the year--sometimes even free--BUT also given the additives in them I was wondering just where are the additives injected. In other words, if I remove the skin, will I also remove most of the sugar, salt? Rendering the frozen turkeys safe to feed Ritz and Dahalia. Been feeding raw for years. Thanks.

Turkeys that are injected with broth / additives / etc are injected directly into the meat.. Removing the skin won't remove anything.

Turkeys that are just brined absorb some of the brining solution into the meat. That results in juicy tender flavorful meat when cooked. Removing the skin removes most but not all of the brine.

Best to buy fresh non-brined / injected turkey to avoid unnecessary sugars and salts.

Thanks. I guess I'll donate any turkeys I get for free.
