the food safety news seems to update itself with each new issue. So, to prevent posting dozens of what turn into the same post, I will no longer post the food safety news posts, but will continue with Recalls and Alerts.

For USA consumers or any country that purchases chickens from the USA.

Why Poultry salmonella has not resulted in a massive recall that would have - possibly - solved the problem didn't happen.

a very long article about the current drug resistant salmonella outbreak in the US which affects human grade food (mostly poultry) and some dog foods. It appears from the article that the dog food was recalled, however the problem is not solved. The article explains why the problem was not solved and why it's probably not going to be solved any time soon. This is posted as a matter of information and to remind everyone that the best thing is to cook all poultry to 165 degrees checking with a meat thermometer and to be very careful of cross contamination, because this looks like it's here for the long haul.

Due to the sourcing of chicken this must inevitably affect pet food as well as human food. Which means take the same care with raw pet food and with raw human poultry. In many cases this isn't a get ill from food poisoning and recover at home illness.

The article discusses how the cross contamination begins at the poutlry plants and moves outward.

this is toward the bottom as you scroll and is an alert not a recall for "
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is issuing a public health alert because Euro Food of Freeland, PA, produced ready-to-eat Italian-style salami stick products that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The alert is connected to an outbreak linked to Citterio brand Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks sold at Trader Joe’s and other grocery stores."
