This one is for Europe and finds it's fault in cooking or not cooking of pork. You've got to cook that stuff. If you get sick from it, go to the hospital fast, you can slap die from this. I remember stories of polar explorers getting it from eating polar bears. Don't do that. Cook pork. They are blaming this outbreak on pigs raised under non-controlled housing conditions or hunted wild boar was the highest risk for acquiring trichinellosis in Europe. That means the governments can't actually recall the stuff. If you're smart enough to hunt wild boar and not be sent to the hospital, you're smart enough to cook it. Cook it before you give it to your dogs or cats too. (Non-italic are my statements not those of the food safety people.)

Trichinella reports in Europe climb again after record low in 2018.

Abdominal symptoms can occur one to two days after infection. Further symptoms usually start two to eight weeks after eating contaminated meat. Freezing, curing or salting, drying, smoking, or microwaving meat may not kill infective worms.

That's really scary the grocery people didn't know about the recall. They are the last line of defense beyond ourselves. One would hope they were keeping up and trying to take things off the shelves.
Yes, back in the produce section they had a sign saying all Fresh Express products had been pulled out of an abundance of caution but they just didn’t apparently communicate this to the service counter.

no recall yet, but I'm expecting one any minute now on this:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the outbreak today, saying “different types of data” are being used to investigate the outbreak involving Simple Truth Organic brand, which is sold by Kroger, and Nature’s Basket brand Organic Power Greens.

“Epidemiologic data show that Simple Truth Organic brand and Nature’s Basket brand Organic Power Greens may be contaminated with E. coli and may be making people sick,” according to the CDC announcement.

As of the afternoon of Dec. 30 the Food and Drug Administration had not posted any company recall notices for either brand of packaged salads.

And here's another one that's an alert and maybe upgraded. Don't eat any of this if you have it:

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is issuing a public health alert for an undetermined amount of 43 imported meat and poultry products from China.

A recall was not requested because FSIS has been unable to identify and contact the importers. The total amount of ineligible product is undetermined because the investigation is ongoing.

The problem was identified through an investigation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). FSIS will continue working with CBP and APHIS on the ongoing investigation.

The 43 products subject to the public health alert and labels are listed here.

The meat and poultry products do not identify an eligible establishment number on their packaging and were not presented to FSIS for import reinspection. These products are ineligible to import into the U.S., making them unfit for human consumption.

RECALL -

Poppies International Inc. of Battleboro, NC, is recalling certain cream puffs that were made during Dec. 7 through Dec. 10, 2021, because of possible small metal fragments.

The issue was discovered during production.

There is concern that consumers may still have unused portions of the recalled cream puffs in their homes because the best-before dates stretch into June of 2023.

Consumer Reports is advising the public to not eat a certain type of ground beef sold at Kroger and other supermarkets because independent testing has shown positive results for contamination with E. coli O157:H7.

The public alert comes after the organization tested a sample of ground beef sold under the Kroger brand, but the other products may be involved, according to the alert released Jan. 5.

The tested package of 93 percent lean ground beef is marked with an “Establishment” (EST) number of 965, representing the plant where the meat was processed, and a “use or freeze by date” of 1/11/2022.

Hepatitis A outbreak may have killed one in Pennsylvania; restaurant implicated.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Montgomery County Office of Public Health are investigating the outbreak in southeast Pennsylvania.

Health officials report that there are eight confirmed patients among Pennsylvania residents in Montgomery County. Of seven people with information available, six have been so sick they had to be admitted to hospitals.
