Feral watches raccoon eat her food.

My feral Bella watched a raccoon eat her food. She was laying on her out door bed and the racoon just came up to her bowl of food and started to eating. Than the next day she watched a cat that I have never seen before eat her food. I was wondering why she did not fight. She is such special cat. I now only feed her when I am with her..

As I understand, an adult raccoon is a dangerous opponent for a cat. So I understand she just looked on this raccoon.  It is more surprising she let the other cat eat.  Perhaps was the other cat looking mean and strong.  Or Bella felt this other cat did needed this food more than she..  Cats can be very gentle sometimes.

A typical example can be an adult cat can let a kitten eat first, even eat from his own plate. And let the kitten win in wrestling matches.  But teaches the kitten who is the master firstly when the kitten becomes a young adult.  So was in my home.  

Do you have any plans for letting Bella be your inside kitty?

What an interesting situation you have with Bella and the raccoon.
She is lucky that you make sure she gets enough to eat :nod:

Welcome to TCS Thanks for caring for ferals . Actually, feral cat's and the regular (meaning the raccoons that live in the same vicinity as the ferals) raccoons and opossums all usually co-habitate very, very well. I have seen raccoons go in the feeding shelters to eat also with the feral cat's sitting on top of the feeding shelter. I have also seen possums and my ferals eating together in the shelter :lol3:. Crazy as it sounds, I think they all are friends and somehow manage to live together peacefully. I have even seen the same possum and cat's going under the deck one right after the other . It amazes me how different species of animals become completely accepting of each other and live happily together sharing food.... Pretty cool

My experience has been that cats will often step aside for possums and racoons. we use to laugh at our cats getting upset with anyone else eating their food.. but if a possum walked it, they acted like maitre d's "table for one? this way." and they would always just sit there until the possum went away. it was my understanding that it was because the possums were meaner than the cats.

I feed some ferals out behind the dumpster of my apartments.

There are two cats who are the same size, shape, and coat color, so I think they're siblings. Sometimes a raccoon will come up to eat while I'm there. One of the cats runs away from the raccoon and lets him eat the kibble. The other one will hiss and bop the coon, never giving an inch. :lol3: Just goes to show you, cats have their own personalities in lots of little ways.
