gotcha. Wish me luck. It won't be easy living through his anxiety! Maybe the vet can give me something to keep him sedated for the first few days.

You don't want him sedated-the best they csn do is prescribe a little gabapentim & how are you suppose to pill him? You can dose his food but it's very bitter & they usually pin thst out easily, lol

Don't over think it-itll be fine, you have to play it by ear dear one- and Robbie is a sweet thing,it's not like he's a maniac- he just panics when he cannot get to his territory and his anxiety will will decrease with lots of lovin & reassurance......it's not like you've never had a cat- you'll surprise yourself how much you do know!

Stop worrying so much,It's going to be okay❤

Yes I'll try to get lots of advice from vet on Thursday morning.

Thank you so much for your encouragement!! Gabapentin is what I was thinking of putting in his wet food but I didn't know it tastes bad.

You can try but I hate to see it wasted- the only way I've ever gotten away with it in food was half dose so it's less bitter- or mixed I'm with Churu & put dabs of it in with the food..... I don't know if anyone else had any luck with it mixed in food but I've thrown out alot of food dosed with Gaba, lol

You never know unless you try though......

I was told gabapentin is tasteless, I haven’t had a problem giving it to any of the cats I gave it to you. I just mixed it in with their wet food and they eat it. Metro on the other hand is impossible unless they are starving and or it is concealed.

I was hoping some one would share their experience with gabapentin - I have read manufacturer's reports claiming it's tasteless - Have you ever put in on your tongue? Yuuuuk

So good to hear someone who's had an easy time dosing ferals.... Well, the ones I have managed to dose using Churu were barely effected by it except when given night before and followed by a second dose in the morning of appt at least an hour before appt - depends greatly on the anxiety level of the cat too- I much prefer a quick sedative injection ,lol

Glad you replied-as far as my own ittle " bloodhounds" they can sniff anything out really- but they are simple to pill anyway

No, I haven’t lol. I did take it myself for a few days though for pain, but it didn’t help me. It just made me very dopey. But it was in a capsule so I never actually tasted it.

Anyway, I was very glad to have found a calming medication that the cats would most of the time eat. It’s also used for pain as well. Jezebel was on that before and after her enucleation.

Robbie is at vet. They are going to knock him out. I had to leave him and wait for them to call me when he's ready to pick up. I asked the vet about integrating Robbie in with the rest of the cats and he said since they have been interacting on both sides of the screen door without any hissing I could probably just let Robbie have free run of the house. What do you think about that? Tommy doesn't hiss at him but obsessively waits at screen door for Robbie to show up and then leaps onto the screen door to scare him away. I cleaned up Robbie's little room and cleaned the catio and locked it. I have lots of bedding to wash that was outside.

Do you remember how long Timmy yowled after being confined inside?
I think it was a good week or maybe even two-

I do not agree with the Vet - I think Robbie would do better to acclimate to his room first- play it by ear and deal with him adjusting to indoor confinement first and see how tye under the door interactions go......one thing at a time......

Oh- don't forget to rub him with a towel with the other cats scents or something that had his scent on it before any of your others get a whif of him after the Vet---- they do know his scent, right ?or were they always separated by the glass door? They know Robbie but Robbie stays in his area, when new guy is in THEIR territory you'll have to move at their pace and comfort level

The reason I mention this is thst I completely forgot about Timmy not smelling like Timmy after the Vet and only realized after it was too late & his best pal Sami did not recognize who this strange cat was in his territory- its taken Sami 6 months to get re-aquainted - he was very aggressive towards " the new guy" at first - Timmy was very taken back by his pal not accepting him

I thought all would be well between him & Sami,Timmy adored Sami but it turned out Max was the one to welcome him in .....6 months later and they are all getting a nice dynamic- they've all pretty much accepted him & he's learning to be in a clowder..... right now all 5 are sleeping out in the patio❤

Whenever I've had Robbie in my bedroom and later let the other cats in, they go all over the place sniffing so they do know his smell. Not too sure he knows theirs. I put Robbie's favorite bed in his little room but maybe I should switch beds?

Not just yet,- give him a little minute to settle in to the indoors - you know, without being stressed about anything but his new lesser environment.. besides,he'll be a little groggy, tired and anxious after his tough day

His little room is a 5x7 hallway that connects my bedroom to my closet. That hallway has the doggie door to the catio in addition to a people door that leads outside. So if he is yowling at night, I won't get any sleep either!
