I have that book! Not exactly my type of story but I bought it on the strength of hearing he loved cats. Weird guy IMHO.

Meet Ada Blackjck, the only woman and the only Alaskan native to survive a 1922 Arctic expedition of otherwise white men by herself on Wrangel Island for two years. Oh, and the cat, unfortunately not pictured here, named Vic, which also survived. Story is in the NYT but I have no idea how to do links. (That’s her son on the right— she was trying to get money to help with his TB).
