I am so sorry that you have reached this point. Remember that you are helping him pass peacefully before he gets to a critical stage when he is no longer himself and is in pain.
Oh no, so sorryThe poor wee love continues to decline gradually.
A couple of weeks ago he was getting dehydrated and weak again so on veterinary instruction we increased his fluids to 50 to 60ml daily (from 50ml every other day).
That helped perk him up a bit, but now he is bleeding from his backside, it's fresh bright red blood around his stools and leaking after he's done a bowel movement, I think it's probably to do with his constipation.
So we have another vet visit in the morning. I'm exhausted at this point but would do anything for my little love - I'm going to see what the vet says, but Jakey is still interested in us, cuddles, affection, food, and his surroundings, so it will be difficult if he's still mentally with it but his physical state has declined such that he's going to start to suffer.
I worry that I am going to have to have him euthanised due to some stupid physical complication while he is mentally alert and expecting to come home from the vet to have his dinner and cuddles.
It's been easier with previous cats, like with Sonic there was a day when he mentally checked out so to speak (declined to sit on my lap as usual and refused food, had lost interest in everything) and we knew that was it, Jakey hasn't done that but is getting physically weaker and more frail and more things gradually going wrong, while his will to live seems strong but his body may not be up to it![]()
So sorryTook him to the vet this morning, she felt a mass in his abdomen.
Obviously with his advanced age and being in end stage CKD already there's no point in investigating or treating it, other than pain relief.
We've got an appointment on Monday to have him put to sleep.![]()
He did have 3 days of IV fluids back in late September, and he's been on SubQ at home since, which has generally gone really well.Oh no, so sorryplease give Jakey a hug… did he ever get IV fluids? That is often better…
