Hi everyone!
I’m going to probably order a DNA test kit because it’d be fun to find out about her breed, but here is my 1.5 y/o DSH rescued from Kuwait!

my vet thinks she’s got some BSH but I’m wondering if she had more Scottish Straight features crossed with DSH?
I would love some input from folks as I’m curious!

- her fur toward the back seems the tiniest bit, slightly longer/less breaks present vs her chest/upper half?
- tail looks a bit thin but it does poof out a lot at the base when she gets excited
- ears are a bit far apart and tall for BSH?

I love her so much! She’s super hyper at times and loves bunny-kicking her toys :)

If you arent somewhere where BS are unusual, you may take it for granted she IS more or less purebred BS. Possibly Chartreux, but BS are much more common.

Not all BS are of Show quality, so comparing her with pics of Show class BS you may find discrepances.

But taking a non pedigreed cat, with these looks, we may presume she is more or less pure British Shorthair.

If you wish to double guard, you can say she is of BS type or look alike. :)

thanks so much for explaining, Stefan! I went and looked up the Chartreux — wow, didn’t know about that breed… All I know is she was abandoned in Salmiya, Kuwait and rescued when she went into heat (and then was flown to the U.S.)… I did read there are a lot of dumped purebreds or close-to-purebreds/crosses there 😢
Thanks for explaining the show quality stuff as well — I was going by the TICA site’s PDF on BS to try to figure it out 😆 and she didn’t seem to fit all of the parameters!

What a cutie 😁 I would say very high percent of BSH. The longer fur and other things would suggest something else mixed in. I think the dna test is not worth the money because people with pb cats ordered them and they were wrong, plus they cannot determine breed of cats at this point. You can already see she is at least part BSH.
