Does anyone have any experience with short-term Onsior? I need some advice.

My cat suddenly has a bump(more like a swelling) in the back of his neck three days ago. And I took him to a vet and got an X-ray check today. The vet said his bone was fine, and she poked his bump. Nothing could be extracted. So she considered it as a soft tissue trauma and that bump cause by swelling. She prescribed me Onsior tablet (6mg) and 1 tablet per day for 3 days. She said this would help his swelling go down. I'm debating if i should give him the medicine, since he doesn't get any infection. Does anybody have experience with Onisor, is it safe for short term? Thank you.

Onsior is for pain/inflammation, not infections. My vet had my cat take it once (3 days) for limping due to an unknown cause. I don't recall it doing much in terms of side effects but her limp did go away. Whether or not it was because of the Onsior, I'll never really know.

My vet usually prescribes it following dental work or other minor procedures/issues as a pain reliever. I would think that if they were wanting to treat inflammation, they would've prescribed prednisolone or budesonide. If you can email or call tomorrow, that might be wise.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I checked other posts that they give their cats Onsior for short terms. It seems safe for just 3-day treatment. My cat has a swelling bump on the back of his neck, which was probably inflammatory. i don't think it's an infection, since the vet couldn't extract anything from that bump.

I think the vet's primary intention is pain management. Even though my cat didn't act like he was in pain, but my vet told me that he might be good at hiding his pain. And the vet's secondary consideration is anti-inflammation. She used the needle to extract from my cat's bump, but she got nothing. There was no liquid there. So she believed there was no infection, just inflammation. But yes, i will call her again to see if there are other alternatives. Today, she offered me Metacam shot, I rejected.

Update: I didn't give my cat Onsior last night and this morning, his bump went down almost 50%. His body heals himself. I will keep monitoring him to see if the bump can go away by itself.
