Does anyone bring anything to their Vets office for the holiday?

I'd like to do something nice for them. I tried last year but ended up going around my head in the same circles. I'm at a loss. With people ...and allergies... and various religions and so on... I have no clue what would be a little safe "thanks for what you do all year" gifty.

If anyone has brought little thank you gifts to your vets office for the holidays - or otherwise - can you share what you did - or what you will do this year?

bought them a few boxes of candy canes, made certain there were enough for everyone including the kennel staff to get one.

bought the pre-wrapped in boxes also wrapped in cellophane or whatever it is now, so it was clear I didn't make them and they were as safe as anything from the grocery

Great question. It's also an interesting question because so many people view giving gifts at the holidays differently. I like to make donations to the local animal shelter(s) where we have adopted a pet. Regarding the vet, I have always given them a gift since I am grateful for their support and the care they have shown to our animals. I try to be cognizant of other people's religions, ethnicities, etc. because I feel that's more respectful. If I know the type of hobbies or things the vet likes I will pick something up that's appropriate. For instance, one of the vets we knew liked to collect Steiff antique stuffed animals. Since my husband also collects antiques he was able to find an affordable small stuffed bear by Steiff which she loved. However, this was a very special vet who we knew for a long time. If you would like to give your vet something to show your appreciation but not sure of their preferences, religion or other affiliations you can always make a donation to an animal charity in their name.

For vets and doctors, depending upon the level of care that we have received in the course of the year I will sometimes bring a food item type gift with a card. There’s no pattern to when I do this or do not do it and I never give anything other than food because it eliminates having to determine interests, etc.

I know beanie babies were a popular gift to the vet at one point because they had a basket on display and gave my kids each one when they were little and we’d been in there a lot. That beanie kitten went EVERYWHERE with DS for a few years.

I was thinking of this question myself because i saw an older woman bringing in a shirt size box the other day but im stumped for what to choose myself. Although weve been there so much recently it feels like we might have already funded their staff party.

I do think a card with a hearfelt message of gratitude is appreciated. I don’t know them quite well enough to feel a cookie box is appreciated. Some people are leery of eating from unknown sources even without allergies. A gift card to a local restaurant might be ok but then I want it to be bigger… So i still don’t know.

I always write holiday cards to vets and all the staff members. They all do a great job and I want them to know how much we appreciate them.We lost Zoey at the beginning of the year and they took incredibly good care of her.As far as gifts that can be really tough I have done the bake goods thing but avoid anything that is a common allergy. If someone says they liked something in particular I make a note of that and if they want a recipe I give them that as well.

Michele has been making these pictures- think paint by numbers, but with tiny colored plastic pyramids- that can be hung on a wall. She has made over a dozen so far, and is donating them to our vet's, as they are holding a basket raffle to benefit local cat rescue organizations. I have the 'easy' part- making the frames for all of them. Depending on the final size, there can be as many as 75,000 of those little pyramids, but only 20,000 on the smaller ones.

I would make use of the web site, Etsy. You can purchase Etsy gift cards, and many (most?) of the small business owners on Etsy accept them as payment.

There are some neat stores that do personalized pet products... and maybe your veterinarian would enjoy shopping on their own private time for something which would celebrate his or her own personal pets.
> Have no affiliation with this store, but here is an example item, a plushie blanket >

In any case, it's not "the usual" type of gift card to use as a thank you gift for someone, and it gives the recipient a choice of the eventual gift.

Ummm no. They got all my money when I got my 6 cats fixed & vaccinated, etc. I view it as a necessary business transaction. Very expensive & I felt they were mostly focused on the money. Glad so many of you have that close connection with them though! I can't really afford to give gifts outside family anyway & doubt I would even if I was rich.

I don't do Christmas presents or cards at all, so certainly wouldn't be doing anything for my clinic. Mum and I used to give a card to our clinic thirty-odd years ago, but there were only two vets there and we knew them well over nearly twenty years (we had five cats, so lots of visits). This clinic - well, it's part of a chain with constantly rotating staff rosters, so I never know who I'll see and honestly don't remember them from one visit to the next, since those visits are months apart.

How do you know what they like for pizza, salad, and donuts though? Like me, I don't eat meat or donuts, and I only like one flavor of salad dressing! Some people are gluten free or other allergies.

yes, I did; but I had a very strong relationship with my Vets... Both my guys were in there almost constantly; and I was in touch with them -- especially Internal Medicine Vet-- so I did bring a gift at Holiday season.

Bakery cookies or a nice package of chocolate or a food gift from Trader Joes..
