We have a well and septic. The biggest down side we've had is losing water when the power goes out. DH has an attachment that can go on the well head to manually pump water if it's out for an extended time. But if we do that we need to have it professionally re-sealed. So I hope we never have to!
The septic is a little hassle. We've had it cleaned twice in the years since we bought it. It's due next year. The other hassle I'm finding is that we still don't know exactly where it is to find out if we can for sure put a pool in our yard. The records the county had were on microfilm from 1982!! The house was brand new when we bought it and the septic inspection had said it was in great shape. So that's good. But the plans don't show much. They were almost impossible to decipher. And I'm pretty sure our nice big trees were planted too close to the drain field. But we have such sandy soil here drainage has never been an issue even in hurricane weather. Thank the Lord!!
