My 8 year old cat recently had developed a darkening on the bridge of his nose and the hair is white. Could this be from the sun? Has anyone ever seen or experienced this with their cat?

Could it just be schmutz from his food bowl? Have you tried wiping with warm cloth?

There isn’t any debris on his nose, I’ve tried wiping it doesn’t change. Seems like the pigmentation of the nose darkened in that area and the fur turned white.

Hi and welcome to TCS! Your cat is older, so there could be something going on. But, I am curious if the hair looks white only because the nose coloring has darkened, or vice versa? What about the pigment on the hairless part of his nose - has that changed too? Do you by chance have an 'older' pic of your cat that would compare the difference? I take it he is fair skinned, and sits in the sun a lot?

Usually, sun tends to affect not only the nose, but the ears as well. Anything going on there?

His ears are fine and haven’t changed at all. Looking back at older pictures he has always had the white it’s just more noticeable now. The pigment of the nose itself has not changed. I am wondering if it’s Lentigo. This is what the nose looked liked 2-4 weeks ago.

Looks like Lentigo!!! But I could be wrong. Freckles on an orange cat, especially when they age. Although its location on the leather of the nose is pretty obvious, it can also be seen on the lips and eyelids. That is a normal part of aging for orange cats.

The bit above the nose leather that has fur and looks a bit raised, that I do not believe is lentigo.

The discoloration is now starting to peel off. It was just a scab after all. He was recently in a cat stroller, which is didn’t like too much, and I think he hurt his nose on the mesh because he kept rubbing up against it. Thank you everyone for your replies!
