I saw this post once on Facebook and was so saddened by the photos that I had to share too, and keep reminding my children to "cut the strings" before disposal. Now they do not only cut the strings, they also cut the masks in small pieces.

and use a garbage can please.
I don't know about where you live, but in my area garbage from cans or bags are taken to landfills and dumped - the bags are ripped open to help with decomposition. Items put in garbage - cans, bags, etc. - such as these masks, as well as many other items, need to be 'prepped' for exposure to animals/birds who will inevitably hunt for food sources in landfills.

While it may be expensive, here is another option for keeping this stuff away from wildlife. You can always get a few neighbors to pitch in together, or get your relatives to join in.
