Hi just feel the need to vent and share'.Crazy cat lady ' thats the name im being called, these days.(behind my back -off course).I got 1 kitten as a

mothers day gift (best thing ever).2 months later adopted  my 2nd kitten from the  shelter( most adorable loving kitten ever). 3 months later went in to do my normal Xmas donation and came across this 6 week and 3 month old(just tugged at my heart strings) so I adopted them as well.I love all of them dearly and have literally been a godsend to me.

However, people seem to think im crazy for spending so much money on them. Not that I go around mentioning that.some of them already know that adoptions are expensive and then they see the toys and stuff. One of my colleagues asked me why I didnt adopt a child instead of wasting money and time on my cats.Another told me I was going over board, when she saw my place and the things Iv gotten for them and that they had the run of my home.

Last night a neighbour(I live in an apartment block) who im acquainted with. Not a friend,so doesnt know  much about me,except that I work alot and dont socialise much. She felt the need to visit at 9.30 pm just to see the little one and inform me that since I adopted 3,I should give her the little one.I thought this very strange and annoying. She was quite insistent about me giving her the kitten since it reminded

he of her cat that had died recently.

She didnt want to take no for an answer.she could not understand why i would not give her the kitten since I had four.Would any one out there just go to a neighbours house and just ask them for one of their children (dont think so). Then she tells me how my cats have human children traits and I spoil them too much and that Iv gone over board.I couldnt wait for her to leave, short from being rude and asking her to get out.

I live alone and Iv had my share of bad run ins with humans ,that is why I prefer animals.I love them, spoil them, give them the best care i can and they give me  boundless joy and happiness.

like right now Im taking a long time to type this because my littlest one is demanding attention and continuously trying to walk on the keyboard and my chest.Im also trying to entertain my big boy Poppet,he thinks he is a dog,so he plays fetch.

Anyways sorry this has been so long winded but I needed to vent and to share how ridiculous some people can be.

Thaks for reading this much

Meh, I proudly wear the crazy cat lady label. I don't have children and most people understand that these cats are my kids. I'm lucky that most people I know have pets and love their pets. Also, consider wearing the crazy cat lady label with pride. It takes their ammunition away from them.

I get this a lot, and I get it at the most insensitive times. Like when Henry was sick, people would take THAT moment to be like, 'Well maybe you shouldn't have so many.' One such comment even came from a fellow cat-lover! The way I see it is this: We all have a little money left over from our jobs (ideally!). Some people like to spend time and money on rebuilding cars or going on vacations or redecorating their homes or buying expensive art supplies. For me, I like spending my time and money on animals, especially cats! And my "hobby" is one of kindness and love, that at the same time improves the lives of other beings. Nothing wrong with that.

i get this a lot too. from the bosses in the office building in which parking lot i feed the strays. i have 10 of my own and then the 'garage kitty', a neighborhood stray i feed  and lock in the garage at night because of coyotes. the garage is finished inside and she has a heating blanket. and then the outside stray. if she doesn't show up when it's time for lock-up i usually walk the neighborhood looking for her. all the neighbors know what i'm looking for. i don't mind beeing called that, i'm proud of it.

I've actually referred to myself as a crazy cat lady since I've also been given the title by others, I don't mind though. My cats are rescues that I didn't have the heart to turn away, if someone has a problem with that then I start to wonder what's wrong with them lol. I also get called a crazy spider lady since I keep tarantulas which is more frustrating to me than crazy cat lady.

When I hear crazy cat lady I think of an elderly woman in a see through nightgown, curlers in hair, yelling and throwing one of the hundreds of cats she owns at the neighbors because they stole her newspaper.

As long as people realize my cats are all spayed/neutered and none bred while here(some came pregnant)  I do not care.  I get stuff from my brother but last time he was over and went into the rooms he dropped the title as he did not think it could be so clean. Obviously they knock things over/down/out daily so can not really be 100% on top of it 24/7:)

I find it odd to think 4 cats is so many and to demand one seems very strange.  Why not take her to shelter to adopt(if there is no reason for her to get denied and you think she would be a good owner)  Maybe 2 cats:)

Crazy Cat Lady -- a title I wear proudly, and people can think what they want. I adore my cats and would do anything in the world for them ---- as I know all of you would also.

The non-cat people don't know what love and affection they are missing.

Thanks one all for your replies.Im quite proud to be called crazy cat lady, donot get angry or annoyed. Most people that I come across seem to think 2 cats are a lot. Therefore 4 is 3 to many (to them).I too prefer to spend my money and time on my cats, rather than anything else.I treat them like my children and have whole conversations with them like I would with a human child.Im responsible cat guardian. They all been spayed ,neutered and chipped.

As for the lady  that demanded  one of the kittens(which I also thought was very strange and unexpected) she has a maltese ,did have a cat that died after eating rat poisen.I did suggest she go to the SPCA and adopt, like I did. However she wants a kitten for free.It is a bit pricey to adopt from the Spca but I look at it as a donation not as payment for the kittens. She however thinks it ridiculous to spend so much on a rescue.

I donot know her well enough to adopt on her behalf  or as a gift.Besides if she thinks adoption is too expensive what is she going to think about the vet fees.

anyways thank again  one and all. Thanks for the love.

I would never do it as a gift I meant take her to adopt, go along as company.  Some people HATE the shelters so a petstore with cats for adoption may work better.

I agree.  I have never gotten a cat from shelter all have been free and none were fixed.  That right off bat is 100 or so.  At least the ones from shelters in my area are all felv/fiv tested, vaccinated chipped and fixed.  Even if I had it done all at once at low cost place that is about 200 depending.

Iv paid 2000 zar that works out to around $200 give or take a few dollars to have my babies.spayed ,neutered, innoculated and dewormed.

I dont think thats a lot . I had 2 chipped  and the little ones need to be a little older before I have them chipped as well. But the majority of people, where I

live dont bother to chip their pets and spend  as little as possible on them. Not many cat people.no toys and grooming parlours for them.Dont get me wrong.not all people in

South Africa are this way just the majority of people in the area that I live in.This is the attitude I get :cats and dogs are animals and should live outside.I however am ridiculed

by some people for treating my pets better than human children. And you know what; I do ,I treat them like family and love them more.

Its frustrating to me that people like kittens or puppies for the cute factor. Its a novelty  and then they become a nuisance  when they grow up.I know many 'good' people who have

gotten puppies or kittens, gave them lots of attention and then, when they grow up, just gave them basic food and water with no play time or much attention.

Unfortunately this kitten demanding lady  would be one of those, judging from the condition of her dog.

Anyways thanks for reply and reading my thread.

It annoys me more when it comes from a dog person than from a non-animal person. It seems it's always the dog people who hate on cats for no reason. I have a friend who's like that. She has two dogs, and she can talk about her dogs just fine, but when I talk about my cat, she rolls her eyes and make comments like "You and your cats obsession".

I know I've mentioned this before.....when I was still doing zoning in town, people would call the office for me. Sometimes they didn't know my name, but they would say, "Hello, I need to speak with the zoning officer. I don't remember her name, but she likes cats and she drives a red PT Cruiser." My office is decorated in Cat. Pictures, coffee mugs, lights, all Cat (except for my Alton Brown poster
). My bulletin board in my office has pictures of many of my friends' cats. If you've ever sent me a cat picture.....it's on my bulletin board. (And if you want your cat's picture on my bulletin board, PM me. I'm serious.)

I don't worry about it.

This happened.

Me: Odd, you don't seem like a dog person.

Friend: Why is that?

Me: Dunno. Maybe a cat.

(This friend, acquaintance really, doesn't like to go out in the cold, and she likes to stay home)

Friend: ....meaning I'm cold-hearted? Aloof?

Yeah, because cats are stuck-up, arrogant creatures who doesn't need love.

Maybe I should have told her that she's insecure with a daily need for recognition from a creature whose sole purpose of existence is to please her. But I don't, because I like dogs.
