In my area, very few people are wearing masks. It frightens me and worries me. I just cringe when I see vulnerable people out shopping without a mask. I have even seen them hugging each other. I found a mask on Etsy that states how I feel!

I like the mask!
I don't see many here without but when I do...I think "you nut don't you care about people!!" I was at the hardware store and one of the employees had his bandana down on his chin. I steered clear of him in an obvious way and hope he got the hint. I'm too scared to confront people directly. I did mention it to the cashier.

I get upset when I go to check out and the clerk has his/her mask around the chin area. I usually say as politely as I can " the mask doesn't work unless you cover your nose and mouth. I would appreciate if you put it back on."

I too avoid aisles where people don't have a mask on. I try to do as much shopping as possible online. Yet I do need fresh food so once a week I hit the grocery. I also have to shop for my elderly parents. They live in a retirement home and are not to be out in stores. Thank goodness. I don't want them anywhere near people without masks.

My local Walmart is small as far as Walmarts go, so I usually go to a larger one in Maryland. That one requires masks, while my local one doesn't. However, I had to go to the local store today to pick up a few things, and something occurred to me while I was there.

I saw a parent with a young child (both maskless, of course ), and I wondered what the child thought of the people wearing masks. Then I wondered about the ensuing awkward conversation.

"Mommy, why are some people wearing masks?"

"Well, sweetie, there's a sickness going around."

". . . so why aren't we wearing masks?"

". . ."

"Mommy?"

I'm concerned about the kids that are becoming afraid, in an unhealthy way. What kind of conversation is happening in this home?....
Someone was telling me about when she went to walk her dog and she came across a woman and her young daughter. The daughter quickly ran and hid behind her mother as she clung on for dear life. She said to the mother and daughter, "Oh my dog is really friendly and loves kids"...the mother then responded, "Oh, she's not afraid of the dog, she loves dogs...she's become afraid people."
Poor kid.

That's probably happening to a lot of kids, sadly. Not really avoidable for some either. My oldest nephew was an anxious child (well, he still is, but has learned to cope a little better), and there was once a storm that blew down a lot of trees in their neighborhood. He freaked out every time the wind blew for months. I can't imagine what he would be like if this happened when he was little. Poor kids, it's a rough time.

What they should bet on is who is going to die.
Unless some of those students are elderly or have compromised immune systems it's not very likely any of them will show sympoms, much less die.

It's still stupid though.

There keeps being sporadic outbreaks in Seoul, so people are still cautious, but it looks like other cities were letting their guards down and now there's small outbreaks in other cities around Korea after weeks of having basically none. Mostly they are focused around door-to-door sales schemes and churches/Buddhist temples. THe actual church services aren't causing outbreaks, but the members then go and have small group study or go to a restaurant or practice choir songs or have overnight retreats and they have been spreading it there.

They instituted a 3-tier social distancing scheme, but I think it's proving difficult to actually implement because the threshold is 0-50 a day for stage one, 50-100 a day for stage 2, and 100+ for stage three...however, we're hovering around 50-60 for the whole country but every day at least 10 are from abroad, meaning they were already in quarantine and so not a danger to the public...so do they count? or..? And we keep having new recruits for the US Army arriving testing positive, but they are kept on-base so I don't think they should count for the national hospital bed figure (which is why they have these thresholds, to maintain enough hospital beds everywhere)

The wild thing is that they've now said that stadiums can re-open with 30% capacity, no cheering, and no food. ANd you have to sit apart even if you come as a group/family. (this would be for baseball and soccer, which are all outdoor stadiums). I think they will delay this though until cases are below 50 again.

Pubs are back tomorrow here in the UK:

Pubs can't open until 6am as lockdown eases
Hopefully it doesn't have the same reaction that it did here. There is a definite correlation here between restaurants and bars reopening followed by a spike. There are a lot of other things going on as well though. There was even a study done which tracked restaurant reservations and rising numbers of cases. Ohio used a slight of hand with ventilation system requirements which has kept many closed for indoor service. We are still getting a spike here but nothing close to many states that allowed those venues to reopen with few restrictions or they allowed capacity limits to rise quickly. The county that I am in is the current hot spot for Ohio. We have had 1500 new cases in the last two weeks. The last time I saw the population count in this county it was 1.3 million. It is following the same pattern of being younger people so the death rate has continued to drop.

A rant. Unmasked, ungloved woman shopping at CUB this morning who was standing and opening every bag of cherries and the digging around in them. I hate to pass judgement but you just couldn’t get any more inconsiderate and downright dangerous.

Suburban Philadelphia here. We opened up last week with some cautious measures in place - code green, I think it's called - not normal, but better than lock down. Almost immediately there was a spike in cases, so now mask wearing is mandatory when you go out. I know part of these spikes is because they are testing far more often than they used to, but the number off cases is also still going up. I believe the death rate, though, is going down. That means those who need to be most careful are doing the right thing. So there is some good news.

Honestly, it's hard to know what to believe anymore. For me, the story has been changed too many times and I don't trust what is being said at this point. I know panic drives the news, 24 hour news stories are hard to come by, and this is an easy story. But I'm not dismissive of it at all, it is a killer and it is here to stay. I just don't know how much is genuine truth coming over the news.

I was finally able to go to the ENT doctor's office (EarNoseThroat specialist) for a sinus infection and he said he hasn't seen any Covid cases, no one he personally knows has had it, and as long as common sense, masks, distance, and hand-washing are in place, the risk is still fairly low. One of my sons had a high fever for 3 days and they thought it was Covid, but it ended up being Lyme Disease. His job takes him out in the public a fair amount, but he does wear a good mask. Lyme is its own monster, I think he almost wishes it had been Covid.

The age group of 18-35, which feels invincible (I remember those days) seems to be the one driving up the numbers. Maybe they will give us the herd mentality which I heard originally was going to be necessary to stop the spread. It's just the rest of us, everyone who is in an older age group or has anything wrong with them, or is pregnant, or very young....etc., who have to be so very careful.

I think we need to hit the reset button for 2020.

And people like that who might be passing it on... I agree, inconsiderate and dangerous.

I 'shop with my eyes'. I don't pick over produce or read labels and then put back. I wear a mask before going inside the grocery store along with doing a lot of handwashing. I don't wear gloves because I think gloves get contaminated the way hands do. They work for medical people because they put a fresh pair on right before they see a patient. They then take those off right after finishing with that patient.

Still a clusterflop here in Michigan thanks to our mess of a governor. Bars, Restaurants, and Strip Clubs were allowed to open but Gyms and Movie Theaters had to stay closed. I don't go to Strip Clubs so I can't say for sure, but what I do know of them there is nothing in the way of "social distancing" practiced by people crowding the stages. There was a spike in cases but that's largely due to more testing and less from an actual rise in the number of people getting sick. Deaths, which is the number that really matters, are still declining but if you listen to the people who are in charge the sky is still falling.
