The ones here in this area also sell to restaurants, they always have sold to both restaurants and individuals. I think selling to restaurants is the way that has made it profitable in the past especially with the added burden of licensing and meeting USDA requirements. I really don't know how they are doing now, hopefully hanging on.

I live near the Fishermen's port, and the boats - usual providers to the fancy restaurants - are selling fish directly to the individuals now in the port. I hear you need to wait at least 3h in line (with adequate social distancing) to get the best quality tuna at a very attractive price :)

Supporting local farms by buying meat and produce and other items directly from them is great :agree: Some have CSAs or other similar programs. There's a magazine that's published in the US and some Canadian areas where you can find local farms and such. Find your local magazine at Find Your Edible Then just search the local magazine's web site for CSA or look through past digital editions for the advertisements.

There are crowds in other places as well. People need to use a little common sense, but common sense isn't common enough. There is a middle ground between lockdowns, hoarding and it's all over we can go back to the way it was before. Being careful, some precautions, a little bit of sacrifice is all it takes to keep this thing from exploding again. Just a little bit of common sense.

Yea everytime we're in the news is when we have stupid people doing stupid stuff. And looking at the news I think Missouri (St Louis being #1) does the most stupid stuff of any other city on earth. Trust me. I've lived here all 64 1/2 years of my life in this city. The people here in St Louis have not taken any of this seriously (well maybe a few) but to look at my local news most think this is something that was government control type thing to silence us and become a socialist nation.

Around the corner from where we live is a place where people with various stages of memory loss/dementia live. I’ve toured it and it really is nice: large, nicely furnished rooms; wonderful common areas with a lot of things to keep people stimulated; and high staff-to-resident ratio. They’ve worked hard to keep these fragile people safe, not even allowing spouses or other family to visit unless it’s an end-of-life situation. A foundation has donated iPads so people can connect that way, but it’s been hard on both resident and non-resident spouse.

Apparently they are now allowing residents and spouses to visit outside through the wrought-iron fence (there’s a beautiful courtyard) provided the spouse wears a mask. My husband walked by this morning on his daily walk—it was a gorgeous day—and he said a man was sitting on the benches provided on the outside, holding his wife’s hand through the fence. They were just sitting quietly, not talking, holding hands. So unutterably sad. 😞

Don’t laugh. We don’t have a thermometer, and I’ve been thinking it would be a good idea to have one. But I was using my cooking thermometer today and thought, “Hmm. Why not?” 98.6! :)

Well, a thermometer is a thermometer :) I bet not too many people would think of using their cooking thermometer, if they have one, to check their own temperature.

I got a freebie thermometer last week when I got virus tested. I wasn't going to use the one I use for the cats 😱

After the club outbreak here, we've been dealing with small cluster infections but they're all still being called "club related" even though it's gone through one or two links. Like, there were about 10 people in there 50s and 60s who spent a day eating at restaurants and partying at an old people's bar (called 7080s because they play music from that era) who infected each other but it's still being called "club related." Like, they're not being blamed for breaking social distancing rules...because they're older? Honestly, the majority of rulebreakers I see day to day are 45-65 year old men. They're still spitting on the sidewalks, smoking in groups, sharing drinks, not wearing masks on public transit (even though that's illegal now) etc. Young people have been blamed a lot, but most of them have wised up. However, it's hard to follow the rules when your parents aren't.

Sorry for the following rant, I don't mean it to sound "charged" but it's been a rough few weeks for foreigners here:
Korea has also implemented a new rule that only applies to non-ethnic Koreans. Yeah. You can be Korean-American, never stepped foot in Korea before and not knowing a word of Korean, but you will not be required to get a doctor's note before traveling. Whereas a non-ethnic permanent resident who is married to a Korean, with a family in Korea, will have to apply for a re-entry permit ($30) and get a doctor's note within 48hrs before returning to Korea. On the surface, the process doesn't seem like that big of a deal because these are extraordinary times. If you're traveling abroad right now, you should have d*** good reasons and be prepared for quarantining and extra paperwork, but then when you realize that it only applies to people who are not blood Korean you go...ah....wait....how will this prevent Covid if it is only applied to one group? Especially when the majority of people coming in from abroad are Korean? A couple of years ago, it used to be mandatory only for foreign English teachers (E2 visa holders) to get HIV tested before coming, so this level of selectivity doesn't surprise me, however, it hopefully won't stick around forever. I definitely don't plan on going anywhere for basically the rest of the year, but I know many people who have lived here for 20 years and have raised families here who need to travel for business that will be very affected by it. It's not exactly easy to see a doctor in a country you don't live in where you don't have insurance, especially if you're traveling on say, Monday. I wonder if the "minute clinics" in the states would be able to fulfill the requirement (it's basically just to say that you don't have symptoms)?

I also wonder what other countries are doing at the borders. I've heard that Greece is planning to open without requiring quarantining soon.

I don't have one either and I did the same thing when I was sick back in march. Mine's a digital, so I thought it would be accurate enough. It's a long probe with a really pointy end though, and I didn't know how well it would read if it wasn't IN "meat" so I had to be careful not to break skin as I pushed it as far as I could stand.....uh...under my tongue..... :rolleyes2: ;)
It seemed to work. I did have a fever for about 2 days but after that it would fluctuate between 98 and 99 (no decibel)
I really hope they come out with a widespread antibody test soon. I seriously think I may have had it.

Mine, too. Not something to use with kiddos or babies, but certainly an option given the shortage of “human” thermometers!

I bought a couple of cheap thermometers to use for myself and when I got them I realized they read in Celsius :D. My dad told me they should be able to be switched so I broke one taking it apart trying to figure out how - they can't. So I taped a note to the thermometer with the conversion haha.

Hmm, usually if you hit the button twice or something like that, you can change from c to f. But I suppose some of the ones intended for sale in other countries might not have the option.

This is the way I feel every time I leave the house and hear someone cough. I also try reeeeally hard not to cough myself. When I do, I feel like people are looking at me like I’m Typhoid Mary (google her if you don’t know who she was :) ).

My husband has started to refer to our next door neighbor as Typhoid Mary (not to her face) because she seldom wears a mask and consistently ignores social distancing recommendations.:cloudy:

I feel the same way about coughing when other people are around. There was a cartoon posted here awhile back. It showed a plane with everyone hanging on outside of the plane with the caption 'Someone sneezed'.
