I’m struggling to identify what colour my Persian is. Can anyone help please? We adopted him from a rescue so have very limited information. Could he be a shaded or golden chinchilla?

I believe your beautiful cat is a colorpoint. He has the wrong color eyes for a shaded. Definitely not a chinchilla, as he is too dark. Possibly a blue point but I am not an expert on colorpoints.
Thank you, I wasn’t quite sure as his eyes are light blue. I couldn’t figure his colour out at all as he does have markings on his face but his body is quite light and has his little red ear tufts!

Gee it's hard to see colors in photos .... you look at one photo and think " oh yes shaded" then another and he looks blue
I'd say he is Himalayan(blue point Persian) because of his blue eyes and point color

Where are my manners?

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes it’s so tricky from photos and doesn’t help that he is clipped. Maybe this photo is better?

Oh Wow- now he looks completely different,lol- now he looks like a blue shaded golden persian( msybe just a lack of pigment mutation with light blue eyes?).... Silver/Golden class .... so although Persians can have blue eyes they are typically deep blue to blue green(& of course copper) but with the light blue I'll stick with Himalayan 😄

Just my 2 cents
The cream hues are really throwing me for a loop- btw,Romulus is a very handsome kitty

All the silver and golden color class must have green or blue green eyes- not blue or copper. If he is indeed a male then the cream/reddish fur could just be discoloration. If possibility the sex is incorrect, maybe be a blue cream. If tabby markings are present that would indicate a lynx point.

yes, his eyes are unusually light blue, and the cream / red is quite apparent behind his ears.
He’s absolutely gorgeous, he’s settled in wonderfully with our other 4 (he’s been with us almost a year).

He’s definitely a boy and has been with us for a year now so the coat colour is definitely true and not discolouration. He does have marking so would agree with lynx point. The rescue took in 5 cats from this particular home (was a breeder), and all the cats were identical, boys and girls so the colouring was consistent throughout.

If he lays in the sun it could discolor the coat somewhat. It would be unusual for a boy to have cream or red color with the blue, I believe.

That was my understanding too. The cream/red is on his ears and face only. He is certainly a bit of a puzzle!

Romulus' certainly has a 3rd color, especially in the warm spots - red or flame points)as it looks in the last photo......I believe it would still be considered that 3 color anomaly which is pretty rare in males ( 1 in 3000 if I recall).....

I have a breeder friend who shows her Persians in Silver Golden Class....I'll see if I could reach her for another opinion.....although coat genetics do not determine a specific breed Id think a Persian breeder might see more than we have of this type of colouration

I see smoke, shaded ,tipped and cameo shaded all in one cat- lol Some kind of wide band factor I'm not very familiar with but would likely be more prevalent in Persians with that beautiful long hair.....

I’d be extremely grateful if you could get your friends opinion too please. He is definitely quite unique! I’ve been scouring the internet trying to find a similar colour combination to no avail. Here’s yet more photos to hopefully help!

After thinking, I have a silver girl of my breeding who has tarnish. This may be what you are seeing. It is caused by the incomplete color clearing of the inhibitor gene. No one has asked, but do you know the color of the site and queen?

That would make sense. I don’t sadly, he was 1 of 5 cruelty case cats rescued from a breeder who kept them in awful conditions in an outdoor conservatory. The other cats are all of different ages so hard to know the history but I’d assume they are all related. The colourings were almost identical across them all though. One of the older girls had a lot more tabby, but other than that, very hard to distinguish them.
