I go to a kosher deli also but not too often anymore. One of the schools I worked at had a bagel club. Once a week the teachers took turns bringing in fresh bagels. Tuesday was the deli's half-off a dozen special so we bought several dozen to bring to school. And I also agree about Panera, they don't even taste like a bagel should taste. 
I was too when I lived in NY. I haven't had a really good bagel in a long time.
I am also bagel spoiled! There is an over 100 year old bagel place in the next city. I grew up on these bagels. When I was small, and their store front was closed; I remember my dad walking in the back door, asking for freshly made bagels. One time I was even allowed, after peeking in the back door; to see the vats of bagels boiling, some in the oven, and some in the cooling racks!
You drink your coffee with your meals? Lately I usually drink one around 9:30am and one around 4:30pm.
I'll have to try some fancy bagels. Last time Dad and I were out before the pandemic, the bagel sandwiches were like $10, so we didn't get one. But I guess the days of $5 lunches are over with.

Yes. I'll have to see if we still have any bakeries around here that sell bagels to take home. I think that other place was just sandwiches, but maybe not. It's like 45 minutes from here.
