Cat was prescribed Clavacillin 62.5 mg tablet twice per day for URI. He's sneaky and spits it out even with a pill shooter. Called the vets office and she was gone for the day however the vet tech said I could drop the pill in a syringe and mix it with water.
Has anyone ever done that and if so how much water to use? I assume 1ml or so.

Thanks

Hi. Sorry no one has responded to your post yet.

I've never done that, but would think it would be best to make the end result as small in volume as possible. I don't know the size of the pill, but you might just call the vet back and ask how much water they would recommend. If it is a bitter tasting pill (which it seems most are) you might need more liquid. You might ask if you can use the water/juice from canned tuna to help mask the taste better.

If it can be dissolved in water/liquid, I wonder if you could try crushing it and mixing it with one of the many lickable treats that are available. Or, another food medium that your cat doesn't get routinely but likes, to help with distracting him from the medicine in it.

You could also consider getting the med compounded so there is flavoring added to help mask the taste. Wedgewood Pharmacy is one of the compounders that can offer this and they ship to most anywhere in the US (assuming that is where you are located). Veterinary Pharmacy for Compounded Pet Medications (wedgewood.com). There is likely a compounding pharmacy located closer that you could check with too.
