Well, his teeth are clean now so how do I keep them clean? When can I start brushing? Would rubbing them every night with a damp cloth be the same as brushing?
You need to at least rub his teeth with enzyme toothpaste. Ideally you would be brushing his teeth with a toothbrush. Would Felix let you brush his teeth?

No, he prefers when I just rub them. The tooth brush is annoying and uncomfortable for him. I've tried the brush for years but it's always a challenge.

Understandable. It's like forcing a toddler to brush their teeth before bed.

I really want to stay on top of his cleaning though because I've been cleaning his teeth for years and if it wasn't for the resorption, he wouldn't have needed the dental.

Plus, I'm starting to not like my veterinarian so I would prefer if he doesn't need to go back for a long time. We addressed all his major health concerns so he should be good for a while (knock on wood).

If you don't like your vet, you need to look for a new one. It's not a good feeling to not like your vet. Yeah you really did a great job taking care of Felix the past year!

MISSED TOOTH?

I could have sworn another tooth was affected too and I thought they would have pulled it but they didn't. I thought since they didn't pull it, it was fine but I checked his teeth again and that tooth I was worried about is indeed affected by tooth resorption.

What am I supposed to do now? They assured me that I wouldn't have to worry about this for many years yet they missed a whole tooth!

I’m so sorry. That’s horrible! I would ask them to fix the problem since they assured you and see what they say. How negligent of them. I would be so pissed. Poor Felix! They need to waive half the fees at least.

I am extremely mad. Especially since they charged me for the pre-surgery blood work when the week prior to surgery, he had blood work done already.

I waited months for this much needed dental. I paid for it with all the money I had left (almost 1 thousand dollars) only to have them screw up? How do you miss a tooth as a veterinarian with years of experience? From the outside, it's so clear that it needed to be pulled.

I'm really starting to hate this clinic and I wish I didn't have to deal with them again but they will be hearing from me. I already emailed them and will be calling first thing in the morning. This is unacceptable. I'd like to see his x-ray scan myself! If they missed that one tooth and pulled out the wrong one, how much else did they mess up?

Lord help me.

2 questions: 1) if I understood you correctly, Felix had blood work done twice, i.e. once prior to surgery and once the week before, is that right? If so, I would want a definitive explanation.
2) Is the vet who performed the dental surgery a certified dental specialist?
AVDC Veterinary Dentist Directory | AVDC - American Veterinary Dental College

Although you have a lot of expenses and time invested with this clinic you may want to get a second opinion from another vet at a different hospital for your own peace of mind. (Perhaps a feline only veterinary specialist.)

Best of luck, please keep us posted on Felix's progress. :alright:

Correct. Prior to his dental, he had blood work done a week or 2 before his surgery. Wasn't long. Then, they drew blood again and charged me for it again the second time.

I'm not sure if this veterinarian is certified. Clearly not at this point... Would be shocking if he was. This is... A rookie mistake. Even then... Completely stupid.

I spoke to the clinic. The most they could do is apologize. They want to look in his mouth and see which tooth they missed. :frustrated::angrywoman:

The veterinarian who did the dental isn't even a regular it seems. He works at multiple clinics. They call him in a few times a week or so when they have cats that need dentals.

She poked around in his mouth - will need to have the tooth pulled like I suspected. Said they'd do it for free. Appointment next week.

It looks like it's rapidly affecting all his teeth. Would it be wise to pull all of them out?
