anyone else running into a shortage? 3 markets, no hearts in a month or more.
are they being used for alternative fuels?

Honestly, it makes one wonder, but seriously, I'm wondering if the bird flu a little while ago has mucked things up.
I wanted to buy some earlier this week and also couldn't find them, M metropical , but I'd forgotten the bird flu, which F furball mentions! I bought gizzards instead.

plenty of chicken livers. flu doesn't affect livers?
perhaps space aliens experimenting replacing their heartless hearts with chicken hearts?
hidden Russian listening devices?

Here in my part of Los Angeles, chicken hearts have been a little bit hit and miss at my main (ethnic) supermarket, but pretty reliable at my backup (ethnic) supermarket. Same with chicken livers.

hadn't thought of the ethnic market. I'll have to give that a go. 10lbs is way too much to store for 2 cat.

Big ethnic supermarkets tend to be the best sources for items like chicken hearts, chicken feet, gizzards, livers, kidneys, and other "odd bits."

My two favorite supermarkets around me happen to be Armenian-owned (Super King and Jon's) with big Russian, Ukrainian, Persian, Mexican, and other customer bases. Cultures that don't shy from real food.

But Asian (especially Chinese, Vietnamese, and Filipino) supermarkets are also highly likely to have chicken hearts.

finally got a package today.
does anyone know if raw hearts can be overfed?
he loves 'em.
Could I feed 1 a day or is that too much of a good thing?

Like anything else, it depends on your cat. I read someplace that chicken hearts had something in it that’s good for cats, but too much at once can cause loose stools.

I’ve given Belle chicken hearts daily, about two per day, without any ill effects.
