After many hours of complaining, turning over his water dish and trying to jail break, he is now napping in his brand new bed.

He's spoiled. :3 I bought him a new bed, a new dish, new litter box, and two new toys - and once I talk to the vet later today to confirm that he can have some treats, he'll be getting some of those too!

Home and being spoiled rotten! That is the most wonderful news!
Spoiled is putting it lightly haha.

He spent all night complaining, unless he can see us. Once he sees us, or gets some pets, he calms down.

His vet called this morning to check and see how he was doing - I sent him some photos of his stitches just to make sure they look okay and he said they look fine and he's feeling good about the recovery.

Charlie's already peed a few times in his box, too!

He's been sleeping most of today now, but perks up for pets and REALLY got excited when I brought him a treat (zesty paws urinary tract treat! Vet approved.)

CHARLIE IS HOME!!!!

I repeat, CHARLIE IS HOME!!

He is currently in his super big pen. He's had his meds for the night and has access to food, water, a litter box (which he has already used and is now just sitting in crying in protest at being stuck in a pen, he's VERY angry about this.)

He goes back on Monday to have his stitches removed.
Awesome news! I'm so happy to hear Charlie is doing well. It's ok if they pee outside the box at first---Bingo peed in the exam room at the vet as we were checking out to go home. The point is, he peed at all. He will remember the places he preferred to do it and once the situation calms down, things will go back to normal. Bingo was at the emergency vet ER for 5 days with that catheter in after surgery to make sure his urethra stayed open and there was no blood draining.

Sounds like you did everything right that you could have done, and now he's home, spoiled rotten, and living the good life. I'm so glad the story has a happy ending!

It sounds like you and I went through something slightly similar! Charlie had to have his cath in for 10! But he decided to be a gremlin and pull it on the 9th day himself, lol. The vets are still trying to figure out how he did it, I'm sure!

I'm glad your Bingo is doing well!!!

Thankfully I see him using the box, so I think we've managed to avoid any out of the box issues! Honestly my main concern there was that he wouldn't be able to hold his bladder - the vet warned me that was a possibility. If he couldn't, it meant he'd be wearing diapers for the rest of his life! (because I was NOT gonna put my cat down for an inconvenience, you know??)

The ratio for time spent at the vets vs time spent complaining about it seems to be about 1/3. You`re probably going to have to do a lot more apologizing and offering of gifts before you`re forgiven.
I'm getting pretty lucky I think! He's already forgiven me! (The treats helped I think) He seems to only cry when he can't see me or my mom, so we're kind of at the moment taking turns being awake so he can always see one of us and get pets periodically. He purrs up a storm the moment you pet him, too! It's adorable.

Things were, of course, going too well.

Looks like we're going to be heading back to the vet soon. Charlie, somehow (even with the collar of shame on) managed to pop some stitches, I think. Here's a picture of what his stitches looked like yesterday vs today. Sent the photos to the vet, just waiting on him to call back as he was with another patient when I called.

I could cry. I just want him to get better.

Spoke to the vet. He says it's okay. He says at this point there isn't really much they WOULD do for it, and he's on an antibiotic that lasts 2 weeks. He says the meds Charlie takes for pain is what makes him so sleepy. Just keep an eye to make sure they don't pop but otherwise we're good to hold off on bringing him in until weather is better.

I`m glad to hear the vet doesn`t think you need to worry. Poor old Charlie, I hope he`s feeling better soon.

:catlove:
Thank you. I hope he feels better soon too! The meds really knock him out. I think maybe the pain from messing with the stitches also kind of made him feel bleh today. He only ate a little and hasn't drank any water today. If this continues into tomorrow, I'll be calling the vet about it. He did pee a very small amount after I cleaned his litter box tonight, meowed a bit while doing it - can't tell if he's straining/in pain or if he just feels like he has to go because of everything that happened. He was also kind of pissed because we had just given him his meds. The only food and treats he's been getting are urinary tract health ones, so I'm doubtful he's reblocking and more thinking he's just sore/tired from the meds. But I'm gonna keep watching him to be on the safe side.

He laid around mostly all today, though tonight he got up to walk around and cry when I went into another room briefly. I have learned if he can't see me or my mom, he freaks out.

We did peak at his stitches tonight and they do, at least, look a lot less inflamed. There are two lil things of white stuff around it, but it's weird? It doesn't look like discharge. More like paper towel. No blood though. His ears are cool and nose cold and wet.

UPDATE:

No urination over night. He hasn't touched his water, either. I'm concerned, but also thinking the lack of peeing is partly because he hasn't drank any water. The only liquid he got was a little bit of the wet food he ate.

So this morning I took his collar off and gave him some wet food with a little bit of water in it. He ate a little, then proceeded to groom himself around the neck area where the collar was for awhile. He was still snubbing water, however, so I emptied his water dish and poured fresh water into a cup - put the dish down and 'slowly' poured the water into the bowl. This got his attention and he came over and actually drank some water.

Going to try and order a water fountain and see if I can have it shipped over night.

He's alert and grouchy that I put the cone of shame back on him, though.

Vet appointment is set for tomorrow, but if weather is okay we might try to drive out today.

OK!

He peed! And pooped.

He had a lil poop accident out of his box, but I don't think that's anything to be concerned about?

Think he got spooked too when someone came to the door.

I wouldn't worry about one little poop outside the box. Just keep watch that it doesn't become a regular thing. He's a bit groggy still, apparently, and probably just misjudged his timing a bit! It can happen to the best of us, especially when recovering from major surgery!

Charlie is wide awake and patiently waiting for his breakfast! He'll be getting his cone off for a little bit to eat and hopefully drink some water, but I feel like he's looking really good today! Gabapentin really knocks him out.

He looks so much better!

:clap::clap::clap:
Thank you! His coat feels good, ears are cool and his nose is nice and cold and wet!

He still isn't crazy about eating today, but I understand he's healing and he might just not feel like it. He did eat a little!

He decided to stress me out by sitting in his box for awhile, to the point where I thought he was straining (no crying or anything like that) but it turned out when he got up that he had peed a LOT. Like, a LOT. So i'm glad to see urine flowing! Gonna heat up some of his food in a bit and see if he's interested now that his meds had a chance to flow through his system.

He's feeling good enough to look heckin' angy though. Guess it wouldn't be a 'day' if he didn't worry me at least once.

Woke up to him cuddling in his bed, sleeping very comfy around 5 AMish, so I left him alone for a bit - about an hour ago I opened a can for the other cats and he right away started crying for his food too. Gave him half a can of his noms and he ate a decent amount, but not all of it. Then proceeded to groom his paws and upper body, so I'm glad he's feeling good enough to nom a bit and also groom himself.

Haven't seen him pee again since the big peepee he took last night, but he snubbed food and water last night a lot too. So hopefully we'll eat better today and I'll get to see him go again, but last time I talked to one of the vets he seemed pretty confident that unless Charlie was straining, it most likely was because he was being stingy eating/drinking.

Over all, he seems in good spirits and like he's doing good. I just wish he'd eat/drink better x.x but I know the gabapentin knocks him out and recovery could make him less interested in food/drink.
