Charlie's acting weird. I don't know what to do.

OH FRABJUOUS DAY! CALLOOH! CALLAY! It seems that you have slain the Jabberwock entirely, and I could not be happier for you!
It def feels like improvement for sure! His litterbox is WAY more dirty daily than it has been in weeks. Much more urine, poop, etc. (Don't worry! I AM cleaning the box lol)

My only concern is that when not on the gabapentin he still seems to have some spasms, so I'm thinking I will need to talk to the vet about some medication for that (i know they have some!)

That and he seems to cry/growl/meow when we pick him up sometimes, but I noticed that he stops directly when I put him in his cat box and I THINK he makes poop after, so I'm wondering if he's sensitive/sore from being backed up/straining.

We're still giving him pumpkin to help with that!

Yeah, I'd mention that to the vet. Just to be on the safe side, and to keep him comfortable, but over-all, he is SO much better!

I guess I'm just worried because of his lack of interest in playing.

I do think the gabapentin is helping, though. I decided to break it up from 0.6 to 0.3 in the morning then at night and he seems a lot less zombified and overall more comfortable.

He's eating better, too.

Today he ate the churu with the d-mannose in it, a teaspoon of pumpkin, nommed a little dry food and lapped at some wet food. Over all he does look like he's putting weight on.

Over all he seems healthy, like I said his ears are cool, gums pink, nose cold, skin bounces back, fur is soooo soft. He's eating well on the stimulant AND he's grooming himself. He's peeing good, and I'm pretty sure starting to poop again better. I don't really understand why he's not interested in playing/just wants to lay around. He doesn't seem lethargic or anything, though, if that makes sense?

I'm just really hoping this is something that is just working OUT of his system. >.<

Little Mister has been through *a lot*. It could be that he’s still trying to regulate after everything and is just not up to it yet. As long as he seems content, I wouldn't get overly concerned, though I wouldn’t force him to play. ❤😀 You're doing amazing with him!

The gabapentin can be mildly sedating, so there's that. However, he is eating, drinking, sleeping, and eliminating well, so I doubt that nothing is seriously amiss. When you start cutting back on the gab, you might see a real change. ALSO, giving half a dose in the AM and half a dose in the PM might effect a change over the next couple of days!

Thank you <3 That's pretty much what the vet I spoke too said too, that he's likely still just getting used to his new "equipment" so to speak.

Honestly I hate the circumstance in which we found this vet... but I'm so glad we found this vet. We decided to stay with them for our cats, they're so good with Charlie and with handling my anxiety. I appreciate them so much.

Boy is he eliminating!! His pees are getting much bigger these days! They're turning into clumps as opposed to small nail sized patties. I'm SO happy to see him peeing.

We've been doing that too btw!! we cut back his gaba to 0.2 in the morning and 0.3 at night for him to sleep well, so far the sweet spot for him seems to be 0.2!

I just saw you're in north Carolina, by the way. Hope you're safe and all your friends and family are safe too!!!

LOL! One of the only places on "teh interwebs" where we cheer for cat pee! YES!

Thank you! I'm in the eastern part of the state, and we are fine. It's WNC that was just hammered. AND, my elder son and his young family live in St. Pete, with Milton bearing down on them. I'm a little frantic about that!

Update!

We had Charlie's vet visit today.

The vet listened to his heart and lungs, said they sounded good. Charlie does not have a fever. He felt Charlie's bladder and Charlie peed on the table. The vet said the urine looks good and clear. He said in addition to Charlie having been on the orbax, it's unlikely and he doesn't think that Charlie has a UTI. We decided to do a culture when we have the money for it, but the vet said it's not emergent unless Charlie stops peeing, and he's been peeing great.

He suggested we pause the d-mannose and pumpkin. He said the pumpkin MIGHT be making the diarrhea worse. He gave us some probiotics for Charlie and a bigger bottle of gabapentin that's not as strong (it's 50 instead of 100) - but the vet visit was overall good.

What did worry me about the visit is that when we took him in he weighed 12 pounds. Today he weighed in at 9. However that said he was a LOT thinner the last few weeks, he felt light and his body looked sunken in. He's gained weight for sure, so I have no idea how much he'd lost during his recovery - but thankfully he is gaining weight back.

The car ride told me his vocal cords are fine, too - by the way.

Charlie is eating, drinking and..... HE PLAYED A BIT TODAY! Not only that, but he resumed his normal antics of jumping up on the fridge and on the back of my chair. He's acting more like his old self.

The only concerning thing is he's being nice to the dog. Haven't figured out why exactly, since he normally terrorizes her <_< Sus pictures below. He'd just had his gaba and kind of just...conked out I guess lol. He's awake now and wants out of his pen. I'm actually hoping that if he keeps doing well, that maybe he can start staying out in the house at night.

I'm so glad to hear you're safe! I'll keep your son and family in my thoughts!!! Hopefully the storm weakens!!

SO, pretty much ALL good news! Or, at the very least, NONE of it bad news. I'm just pickled tink! As for the dog, who knows? Maybe he isn't feeling quite "fighting fit" yet, or maybe he just has a new perspective on things. I imagine you'll know in the next few days!

Thank you for your concern for my son and his family. Milton is now a Cat 5 storm, but the latest reports expect it to weaken and come ashore as a Cat 3. Sure hope they are right!

It's been awhile since I last updated!

Charlie's doing good. He sometimes still has issues, though it doesn't seem urine related and more upset stomach issues. The flora has been helping, I believe. He's no longer on the appetite stimulant and will eat and drink on his own just fine. He hasn't slept in his pen for about two weeks, save for one or two nights off and when he had some dribble issues and seemed uncomfortable - but a night on gabapentin and his flora seemed to fix him right up?

He's playing, resting comfortably, eating and drinking, etc.

The last issue we had was LAST saturday when he seemed stressed and had dribble issues - which I think may be because we weren't home. But he's totally fine now!

He still isn't peeing HUGE pee-pee's but he IS peeing decent amounts. Maybe about half a golf ball size each time he goes. He still dribbles, but it speeds up the longer he pees which makes me think it's him still just being worried it will hurt.

All in all, haven't had to call my vet in a whole week now!

P.S - His butt fur is taking forever to grow back though. Hope he doesn't get cold back there D:

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 - I hope everyone is okay after the storm! Please reply and let me know! Been praying for your families safety!!

Kitty tax picture! Cat tree is old and his favorite so, ignore the mess please!

I have a cat tree just like that...
I wish I could trash it, haha. But I have yet to fine one shaped like this one again and he LOVES the middle piece so much, lol. I figure I'll buy a new one for the kitchen soon, and just put this one in the cat room for him when he starts venturing back there again.
