Charlie's acting weird. I don't know what to do.

This morning around 9 AM I saw him kind of standing funny in the living room, so I went over to him thinking he was peeing - he wasn't. But then I noticed his tail shaking oddly.

His nose was cold and wet and his gums were pink, but he was just not acting like himself.

I noticed he'd lay on the ground, look up and around, his body def seemed stressed positioned. He'd every so often walk himself into the cat room, but he did it slow, like he was creeping and every so often his tail would continue to shake - the only time I have ever seen a cats tail shake like that was if one was spraying, but he was fixed as a kitten.

Earlier he took some catnip, but doesn't seem to have an interest in food or water (however I have NO idea if he's been eating/drinking when I've been asleep - since when I woke up I found him IN the cat room laying down, so he's obviously moving around.) and doesn't really seem interested in playing. I tried to give him some catnip a bit ago and he didn't want any.

Yesterday he seemed fine. At one point he was just laying down and I was worried he wasn't feeling well, but then later that night he was up rough house playing with Gracie.

There was a VERY strange vibration sound last night that startled my mom. So she thinks maybe the sound spooked him, but this seems like a long time to be spooked? Some friends said depending on the cat they could act out of sorts for a few days after being scared, but I've never experienced this for so long, so I figured I'd ask here since the only cat I have had that got spooked and acted off was Milo, but he was fine after a few hours.

I don't want to take him to the vet and make things worse if he's scared, but I don't want to NOT take him to the vet if he's sick.

I'm also stressed because we have no emergency vet here and it's the weekend (WHY does stuff ALWAYS happen on the weekend?!)

This is kind of how he's been laying - I can't tell if he's lethargic or not? He's laying like this a lot, aware and stuff. He's just not very interested in doing anything.

He did jump from the counter to the top of the fridge earlier, then back down a hour or so later. And just now jumped from the table I put him on to the other table, then the floor - he also jumped the gate, but kind of meowed lowly before doing so. I don't want to say it was a yowl, because it wasn't loud at all? and only once. So his movement doesn't seem impaired at all.

edit to add, he's 2 (will be 3 i think?) and has previously always been healthy. Good soft coat, strong, etc. He's never had any medical issues.

Hi. There is a very good chance Charlie could have a blockage of his bladder. If you have not seen him urinate in the last 12 hours, I strongly recommend you get him to a veterinarian now. If he is blocked, every minute that goes by more damage will be done to his kidneys. If he is blocked it is a life threatening issue that must be handled by a veterinarian. If you pick him up be very careful not to put any pressure on his bladder/ Lowe abdomen. Only pick him up to get him in a carrier.

Please update when you can,

The problem is being the weekend, we have no emergency vet. I think the earliest we could possibly get him in might be monday, since the vet is far and they don't stay open long on saturday, then are closed on sunday.

I've seen him go into his litterbox, but I don't think he peed. Only pooped. Hard to tell with 6 cats.

I have pressed on his stomach though, it's soft and he doesn't react to any pain.

I live out in the country.

I live out in the country…in emergencies, there is one independent travelling vet. Perhaps there is something similar near you?

I wish, I've looked into this before when we've had emergencies on the weekends, but sadly we don't. I dread weekends, honestly, because I feel so stuck if something happens

He won’t survive until Monday. He will die an agonizing death. If you want to tell me what area you are in I can look one up for you

Honestly, if he is blocked, and what you are describing sounds like it he must be seen ASAP. It is honestly a life threatening situation. The sooner he is treated the better. When he is unable to urinate, the toxic buildup in his body starts to damage his organs like kidneys. He won’t make it until Monday. He might not make it the night. I cannot stress enough how important it is that he see a vet.

I live in a very remote area and have had to travel 2 hours before to get to an emergency vet.

We can try to set out early tomorrow to make our usual vet before they close, do you think he can hold off until then?

He doesn't seem to have any pain in his stomach and he can walk, but he's having trouble jumping the gate now. Won't take treats.

He seems more irritated when I touch his back legs than anything else, but his legs are not cold or anything like that

Personally I’d do whatever I could as soon as possible. Silent Meowlook generally knows where of she speaks, and cats can change quickly.

Do you think he can wait until 8 AM?

He's just laying in front of his litter box now (which is right by the dresser the bed he'd BEEN laying on is) because I assume he can't jump up onto it.

He's not licking his bits at all. When Jasper had a UTI, I saw him constantly going into the litterbox and trying to pee. Charlie's not doing that.

All I can tell you is Silent Meowlook gives VERY good advice. Had that been said about my cat I would not hesitate: I’d go. Now.

I can't go now. The closest emergency vet here is about 6 hours away, and we've never been there. Between that and driving in the dark, I feel like it's extremely risky for us to try and it would stress him out. I've debated moving, honestly, because I don't like being so far from emergency locations.

However I talked to my mother and she's agreed to wake up early so we can head out early to get to the vet.

He is, however, back in one of his favorite spots (cuddled up with my moon pal and under my blankets on the couch) so he was able to get up there okay.

checked his ears, no fever. Nose is dry but cold, not warm. Gums still pink.

My mother reminded me that there was a bang last night while they were rough housing, then we didn't see Charlie much last night - so I'm wondering if maybe this entire thing is because he hurt his back legs (still taking him to the vet though to be on the safe side.)

If you have not seen him urinate, I would get him in tonight. How far is the closest ER?
The thing is that if he is blocked, every minute that goes by if he cannot urinate, more damage is being done to his kidneys and it will be more complicated and involved to try to save him.
If your vet doesn’t have overnight care, he will have to go to a 24 hour hospital anyway.
Of course I do not know if he is blocked and there is no way of me telling you if he is for sure blocked or not. There is nothing I can tell you to do in order to make that determination yourself.
In order to be able to tell, such as feeling his bladder in the abdomen yourself, you just can’t. And if you press or squeeze too hard there is a risk of the bladder rupturing. By the time you would be able to tell, he would be near death.
If he is blocked and it is treated early enough, then his kidneys will return to normal once he is treated. If you wait too long it can do unrepairable damage.
Not to mention how bad he feels, even if you don’t see it. Cats are very good at hiding how they feel.
Imagine how you would feel if you were not able to urinate for 24 hours.
That is of course if he is blocked.
He is showing symptoms of being blocked, the tail flicking, not eating, pain or reluctance to jump. These are all signs of a blockage. Plus the fact that you haven’t seen him urinate.
Try getting a clean litterbox and put it and him in a separate area and see if he uses it. If he goes in, check for any signs of straining and see if he actually urinates in it.
Even if he isn’t blocked, but honestly it sounds like he is, the lack of appetite is concerning and cats don’t just stop eating unless there is something wrong. A cat can suffer from a disease called hepatic lipidosis aka fatty liver disease in as small an amount of time as 24 hours without eating.

If he was my cat, I would start calling any animal ER within a 100 mile radius and see if one will see him. There also may be urgent care vet hospitals that could help him.

If you have not seen him urinate, or if you have seen him trying to pee and only passing small amount take him to an ER vet now. If his bladder is blocked he might not survive until morning. The longer you wait the worse this will get, and the more expensive and difficult it will be to fix.

Please don`t wait any longer.

Found help getting to an emerg3ncy vet.

We are here now. He is blocked! They are unblocking him now. Ideally they want him to stay over night but we don't have the funds to cover that however she says they can unblock him within our budget and that once they do he SHOULD be okay enough to go to our vet at 8 AM

I`m so glad to hear you got him to a vet in time.

Vibes for a speedy recovery.

I'm hoping it was on time. They are unblocking him now and she did say he should be fine until 8am when we can get him to our vet but I'm still nervously waiting for them to finish unblocking him
. Everyone is telling me it's a fairly simple procedure though

So he was badly blocked and they were unable to remove the obstruction. They were however able to drain him and give him antibiotics and what not. The catheter however broke off and is stuck in his penis (the poor vet... i think she thought i would blame her but i swear she was so sweet, they were all REALLY nice at this place) but they said i got him in on time, but surgery will be needed. On the bright side this should also be preventative going forward too

Thank you all by the way, I'm glad I listened and took him in <3 Was so relieved to find this place.
