Murphy had his first dose of Cerenia (maropitant) today.

His appetite is great (although he’s still Mr. Fussy-Pants and will only eat his old food, he ate like he was ravenously hungry when he finally got it).

But about 8 hours after his first dose, he started drooling a LOT. Like, multiple drips falling from his mouth in the space of a few minutes.

I know excessive drooling is a potential side effect of Cerenia - is this something that tends to go away after a few doses, or is it always going to be like this?

Hi
I can't help regarding whether the drooling remains throughout the dosing, but if your cat appears to be having trouble with excessive drool you could flush his mouth, with a syringe, from the side and forward so he doesn't swallow it. Have a towel handy :)

What is Murphy taking Cerenia for? If for nausea, sometimes ondansetron works better. It seems Cerenia is more geared toward preventing vomiting, whereas ondansetron seems to do better for nausea. If the Cerenia isn't 'doing its job' for him, it could be he was drooling due to feeling nauseous after eating.
