I'm curious to find if there are any certified cat trainers/behaviorists in Arizona, particularly servicing the southern AZ area? I noticed that Animal Behavior College is offering a cat trainer certification program for all 50 states in the US. Cat Training and Behavior Management - Animal Behavior College I'm trying to figure out if it's worth my time and money. I know I want to work as a dog trainer, and I'm considering adding cat training to my repertoire and income potential. I live with 4 cats; I can't afford to get a dog yet, but I'm working towards that goal.

If I had the time and money, I'd consider pursuing it. The hardest part, I think, would be getting around the people who scoff at the idea cats can be taught anything.
Are you looking at doing specialized training with dogs?
Do you clicker or marker train your own cats?

I have done some clicker training with my cat before, and he catches on fairly quickly because he is a SERIOUS foodie!

Oh my goodness, the possibilities with dogs are endless! I think what I most want to pursue is learning obedience and behavior modification, and eventually service dog training, therapy dog training, and/or search and rescue training. Deciding on a dog trainer school is the hard part!

Have you read any of the Karen Pryor books?
I trained my GSD to be certified as a Therapy Dog. We didn't do a lot of visits (he had some health issues by then) but the ones he did, he did very well at. I have a close friend who has trained both service and therapy dogs.
When you say obedience, are you thinking competition style obedience or general every day obedience?

I haven't read any of Karen Pryor's books. Does she offer any scholarships? In the obedience training world, I mean general everyday obedience so that dogs and people can live together harmoniously.

I'm not sure about scholarships, but her books are very good. She explains a lot about how they learn.
