Very sad, and the kittens were all negative too. 
Yes, I would have had the mother vaccinated as son as I got her. I'm not sure if that would have helped if she were incubating rabies, but maybe it would have stopped it. If she raised 10 kittens to adoption age, I wonder how long they had her in their home.
