Really long post, but please read through. I need help very badly.

Timeline: On Dec 11th night my cat stopped eating all of a sudden. She gets dry food twice a day at 5:15am and 11:30pm, and wet food at 11:30am and 5:30pm. So when I gave her night portion of dry food, she turned her nose up at it. She usually gobbles up her dry food. I let her be that night, thinking it was a one time thing.
But it was the same on Dec 12th morning. That day, with a lot of persuasion I was able to get into her about half of what she normally eats.
On Dec 13th morning she wouldn't eat again and it was getting harder to get her to eat. So we took her to the vet. The vet did a basic exam (saw that there was no temperature. That was about it, really). At my theory that maybe it has something to do with her teeth or mouth he glanced (barely) at her teeth and commented on the tartar build up, but said that it wasn't enough to cause her to stop eating. He said maybe she just has a slightly upset stomach, that it would pass over, and prescribed me a tonic for increasing her appetite (though from what I can tell it's just a multi-vitamin and amino acids food supplement).
On Dec 14th and 15th I was able to get her to eat at least a little something at each of her meal times, but with great, great difficulty (I'm spending 4-6 hours a day, trying to make her eat). But it's still less than what she normally eats.

Some details about her food: I used to give her Orijen Cat and Kitten dry food for a long time before they ran out of stock so I gave her Farmina (Chicken and Pomegranate; Lamb and Blueberry). Until Dec 2nd or 3rd. When Orijen came back into stock so I switched. I made a mistake and forgot to slowly reintroduce Orijen. I made a post about it here as well. I mentioned in the post that she seemed to have an upset stomach, since she was eating grass, and wasn't clearing her plate like usual. In hindsight I should have seen this as a warning sign. After making that post I ordered a small packet of Farmina so that I could properly do it, but the item arrived late so I just didn't bother (it seemed like she was better). After she stopped eating, at first she seemed interested in Farmina while ignoring Orijen. So I tried to feed her that. But she became uninterested in Farmina the next day. On Dec 12th it seemed like she was eating her wet food, which had been Royal Canin Instinctive for a long time, but she stopped eating that in the evening. On Dec 13th and since, I've been feeding her Bellotta Tuna in Gravy canned food, although she is still very reluctant to eat. I have to try multiple times and hand feed her really small bits for her to eat it (though she seems interested in licking the gravy part off my fingers). One theory I have of her behavior is that her nose is blocked so she isn't smelling and tasting things right. So on Dec 14th we made fish and broke it into tiny pieces and gave her, which she seemed interested in eating, but didn't eat too much of it. On Dec 15th my mother gave her chicken off her plate, and from what she tells me, even though she didn't break into tiny pieces and threw it onto the floor, my cat ate the chicken enthusiastically (she always preferred chicken flavors over sea food).

Other behaviors of the cat: She seems normal enough, but to me it feels like she's a little less energetic. Not too easily noticeable, though. I haven't measured her weight yet (which I'll do tomorrow) so I'm not sure if she's lost weight. To me it seems like her face is a little gaunt (but that could just be me worrying). The frequency of her peeing and pooping has decreased. Before all this, she'd usually pee 3 times and poo 2 times a day. Now she barely pees 2 times and poops once. On Dec 13th, she peed in her carrier on her way to the vet (must have been the stress since she hates it, and she hadn't peed all morning and previous night), but didn't poop. On 14th she peed and pooped twice, both. On Dec 15th, she only peed once and didn't poop. I figure a little bit of that decrease in urination has to do with decreased water intake. Normally I add 120 ml to her wet food each day (60 and 60 each time), add to her drinking water 40-50ml on her own. Now I'm not doing that and she barely eats. Her poop isn't runny or anything. It's firm and on 14th morning, I think, I though it was a bit too firm in some parts, but it was normal in the evening. It seems to me that she is getting hungry (the past couple of days, especially), but doesn't or can't eat what I'm giving her. She does eat a lot of grass, though.

Possibly relevant details: I haven't given her the tonic that the vet prescribed yet. I'm thinking of starting tomorrow. The reason I haven't done it yet is I'm scared she'll react badly to it. It smells awful and my cat isn't eating well so I can't sneak it in. The only thing to do is to use a syringe. But if I do that my cat usually get angry with me and I'm scared that she won't eat what little she is eating.Should I give force the tonic on her?
I'm also scared it's only a matter of time before she'll stop eating the Bellotta canned food and then I'm totally screwed.
On Dec 8th I administered deworming medicine to her. It's Excel Roundworm dewormer (8 ounce) that I had imported from the US because it said that it was palatable (and I couldn't find a liquid dewormer in Indian market). The first time I administered it on Oct 23rd and then on Nov 7th, mixed in her Royal Canin wet food, she ate it no problem. She didn't do so on Dec 7th (but now it seems the medicine wasn't the problem), so I had to administer it using a syringe.
I also added a new litter box to our house and made a post about it here. I put the old box in the new location and the new box in the old location, with some old litter sprinkled in.
On Dec 10th, it was the one year anniversary of us bringing our cat home so as the 'cake', I gave her Sheba Tuna Fillet and Whole Prawns in Gravy. In the morning she seemed mildly enthusiastic about it, but refused to eat it in the evening.
I should also mention that on Dec 11th, she had a bit of a scare. I've been taking her on walks in our apartment and she saw some dogs through a closed apartment gate. When one of the dogs took just one step towards her, she ran like there were hellhounds chasing her. I fear she might have pulled too hard on her leash and hurt her throat. She does pull hard on the leash when she startles during the walks and tries to run away (the behavior largely improved the past few days).
She's had been doing this sort of coughing thing cats do with their heads to the ground and throat parallel to the floor? But she did always do it occasionally so we didn't pay it heed. And she wasn't doing it more often than normal. On Dec 12th, though she ate some grass and made herself throw up (it could also have been because she hadn't had any food that morning).

I really don't know what's wrong with her and I'm panicking really bad. The vets here aren't really very helpful either. She wasn't even listening to half of what I was saying during the visit and getting another vet is not an option. All vets here are like that and I've already tried them through the one year I've had my cat. So any help or advice would be really appreciated. Again, I'm sorry for the long post.

What I'm going to give you is stop-gap stuff. I HATE that you have such poor choices for veterinary care. Is there an international airport near you? The customs people who deal with animals and their quarantine may be able to recommend a vet who is a bit better to you, actually! We've had members have good luck with that, as well. Or contact one of the Universities with a veterinary school and ask for vets in your area who are specialists in internal medicine. This could be something as simple as a food allergy or as complex as pancreatitis or IBD (ALL of which are manageable with the right vet). Vet schools in India can be found on Google, actually. IF there is a university with a vet school near you, TAKE HER THERE! It will cost just as much, but the level of care will be better!

Until then, she has to eat. She has to. If necessary, you can add water, Pedialyte (if available) or KMR (kitten milk replacement) to a pate style cat food (no chunks) to make a loose slurry and give that via syringe. Be sure to put the tip of the syringe in her cheeks to prevent choking, and give it slowly. Same with water, if she isn't drinking as much as usual. This will at least keep her energy levels up, and prevent fatty liver disease while you are finding someone who can diagnose and treat her competently!

Hello,

I had the same thing happening to my cat. She just stopped eating and it seamed that she can't collect her food with her mouth like something was blocking her to do it even if she wanted to eat and asked for food. She would eat just a little bits and that was it. Coupple of times she gagged and I thought it was her trying to deal with the hairball. I have noticed tiny scabs around the edges of her nose too. I started thinking that she might have blocked nose and she can't feel the food and maybe even inflamated throat as she stayed couple of times outside for half a day and it was pretty cold. She probably drank too cold water outside. So I have decided to give her antibiotics without going to the Vet. I am not sure if she had temp but, as her nose seamed blocked and with scabs and very dry, she was very depressed, she almost didn't drink any water or ate anything, I thought, well I can't kill her if I do this. So I am doing it for 3 days now, one tablet in the morning and one in the evening. Just after 2 tablets she started changing her behaviour and started eating more food and drink water. Now I have given her 5 tablets already and I will stop at 10 and see how she is. Today, after her 5th tablet she eats normally as before and scabs are not around her nose anymore. I am not saying that your cat is the same but, I managed to help my dear Kitty and nobody is happier than me. I used antibiotic Klavuxil 50mg tablets that contain amoxicillin and clavulanic acid and I bought these tablets in Croatia from my Vet as she told me that this is the time of the year when pets can get ill from being outside in the cold. If your cat has any inflamation, antibiotic will sort the thing out. If you decide to do it, then when you are putting tablet in cat's mouth, try to do it when cat is calm and sleeping and push it gently on the side in her mouth behind her back teeth, not in the middle of the mouth as cat spits it out, must be put on the side so she starts chewing it. Also, check on her while doing it because she might spit it out so you have to put the tablet back in again. I hope this is helpful and good luck with your cat :)

Please let us know how your cat is doing!
Hello!
My cat is just fine, eating normally again as before! I gave her 10 tablets of antibiotic in total, 1 every 12 hours. Her nose doesn't have those tiny scabs around the edges so I suppose her scent of smell is back again as she eats really well! I don't let her be outside more than half an hour and she doesn't have any cold water she can drink near the house. She was never ill in 5 years so this was terrible experience but luckily she is well now. She is around 7 years old as she came to us as a stray cat and we addopted her. I am so happy she is feeling good again. Hope your cat will be fine too! Good luck!

Oh, I saw that, and am so happy that your cat is doing well! Sorry I forgot to mention it! The holidays have me frazzled. I was wondering about hypatia hypatia 's cat.

I hope your cat is ok! I spent a few weeks where I felt like making my cat eat was a full time job and like cat food was everywhere but in my cat (on the wall, on my clothes, etc....). But she eventually got better when we found a food she wasn't allergic to. If you can find pure meat baby food in India, that could be a good stop gap to get calories in her. I'm sure you've read by now that if a cat stops eating and loses weight too fast, it can have liver problems, so getting calories in is really important. The best baby food would be 100% meat, meat and rice would be ok too but make sure there's no onions or garlic (some might just say "spices").
