I’ve started to notice that the right side of my cat’s belly seems to stick out more than the left. When he is walking it is noticeable and even when he is laying you can kind of see it. His right side, so in the pictures it would be on the left. I included a picture of him mid-stride when both sides are the most pronounced for comparison, and a picture of him laying down.

He is acting totally normal besides for this - he is eating well, wanting to play and interested in all his normal stuff. I will say that around the time I started to notice this is also when I had bought him some cat nip spray.

An additional note, over the last year there have been a few times his left side felt more engorged and puffy, then it would go away after a few days or a week. I took him to the vet February of this year and his vitals, labs and x ray came back normal.

What could this be? Anyone have any thoughts?

Also what should I do here? He has a vet appointment next month. Should I wait for that or try to get him in sooner? Or does it seem like emergency and go to vet ER? Again he is acting completely normal

I forgot something - he was constipated a few weeks ago so I started giving him some Miralax daily. So he’s been getting about 1/8 teaspoonful of Miralax daily since then and he has not been constipated. But this bulge also seems to have been after that started also. So not sure if the Miralax, or as I mentioned earlier the catnip spray, could be a culprit

I am not sure catnip spray would be the culprit. The only way constipation might attribute to it is if he has a lot of stool resting in one area of his intestines. If the miralax stopped the constipation and his stool is normal again, then it wouldn't seem to be that there would have been so much stool there to cause a bulge - but if it were, it should have disappeared as he started having normal BMs again.

Is it sore to the touch? Can you actually feel the bulge, and if so, is it hard or soft and moveable?

Since he is acting normally (including eating/drinking well, with normal litter box deposits), you could try to get a pic of him from above with him just standing (rather than walking) and send it to your vet along with the information you shared above, including the answers to the questions I asked. I say to get a pic when he is standing only because cats tend to have a bit of a swaying movement in their backends when they walk and that distorts what the bulge actually looks like. In your pics above, the bulge almost appears to switch sides as he is walking. The one with him sitting is hard to see a bulge at all.

I looked into it and Miralax most common side effect is bloating. And that seemed to be what it was today his stomach was normal. He’s fat so it bulges but it was the same fat belly bulge on both sides. Yesterday it was different and I’m assuming bloating
