Hi all, I hope this finds you well.

My cat, (Spotty) has some issues. It started some weeks ago. Fussiness, lack of food interest.
Drank water just fine.

Then it became different. Total lack of food interest.
Saturday last we took her to the vet. A good vet I might add.
They decided she was lacking fluids. A needle was roughly placed in her paw by a horrible intern, very rough she was. The main vet was busy with an operation.
I managed to calm the cat down, all seemed ok. Then someone suggested it could be kidney trouble. Out came the sonograph!
Then.......
The torture began. Poor Cat, I find it hard to relate the horror in words!
Dragged left, right, roughly shod back down at every attempt to escape!
Then the expert intern stated it was kidney failure. Heart sank, Cat so distressed.
Blood tests were taken from the line hook up, again, like torture.
On getting home, I could see Spotty was so happy to be back home. Then the call. Another infusion needed!
Oh my God.

Cat was fine all the way there. Looking out of the car window. So happy.
Then we arrived.........

This time it was not so easy to convince the Cat all was ok.
Pure terror set in. Vomit, drewling, even a No2 came out.
Horror.
On the way back Spotty actually stopped breathing for a few seconds.
Yesterday she was only a shadow of the Cat we knew, today, much the same. Drinks, hard as heck to feed, even with a syringe. Her left rear leg has a limp. Probably from all the pulling and tugging the day before.

Nightmare situation. So my question is:
I have to take her to A vet, preferably another, while that intern and her friend are at my place.
But what would you suggest to feed the poor thing?
The only interest she showed was in a pate!
Results from tests were kidney negative.....
I'm confused, we all are. Main vet too.

Thank you very much indeed.
👍

So, the good vet you mentioned above isn't that good, if they see a kidney failure where there isn't, and they torture your cat for just inserting a IV line and running an ultrasound scan.

Give your cat some rest, feed her what she likes the most.

As for the lack of interest in food, I can relate, because my Freya is being just the same since August 18, and so far we haven't been able to fully understand where the true problem is.
In my case we have the certainty that her spaying surgery went wrong 13 months ago, and that her heat cycles are bothering her.

I hope your Spotty gets to eat something more, and when this nightmare is forgotten, have her seen by another vet.

Thank you for the replies.
Spotty was taken by the vet this evening. Another vet associated who saved her life after a very bad front leg injury.
We did not know this service was available. Shocked even that it was the same practice our surgeon was a part of.

At least tonight she will be in good care, with proper results attained tomorrow am.
Now, she just has to hang in there tonight.

Thank you again.

Hi. Fcov is the feline version. We can carry it without any effect is my understanding.
I believe it was tested via the same blood sample.

The lab will need to know which tests are needed when the sample is sent. This means perhaps more than 1 blood sample.
She's passed all tests bar one so far. I forget, for what.
That one has to go to a specialist lab in another City.

Went to see her yesterday, looks much better!
Even meowed calling us back when we were leaving, but in solid caring hands this time.
The other vet nailed the prognosis with no tests. She wasn't the person who mistreated Spotty, it was her interns.

Anywho, hopefully get the fluffy back this weekend.

Thank you. 👍

I asked because I had covid (the second time) a couple of months ago, and because my cat was sneezing in the same week, I ran a test on her, using the same swab tests I have at home. I pushed the swab down her mouth/throat for a few seconds, it came negative.
I told the vet what I did, the vet said that in cats the same swab is used anally, because the virus is expelled with feces too.

Thanks for your explanation.

Sounds like these vets know what they are doing. And it shows in the results.
Fingers crossed she can come back home soon!

Thank you very much indeed! Masks are being worn here again, in tiny numbers. Influenza abound. I don't know if cats can get that too 🤦
Be well. 👍

There had been rumors that covid could be passed onto pets, but the reported cases were so few that it's hard to say.

I don't know where you're based, but over here in Italy only a very few people keep wearing masks, only out of habit, I guess, because they're mandatory in hospitals and care homes only.
I haven't been wearing a mask since early February, and honestly I sincerely hope I never have to wear them again.
Vet clinics allow people in without masks here, and staff too don't wear them.

Take care! 🤞

Much closer to the ongoing conflict than I care to be. About 1,200km from the nearest units.

Wife's a Doc. We've both been sick 3 times. My wife still has bad bouts. We still wear them out and about. Doesn't bother me really when I see people picking noses, other, unmentionable things.

One City here has 20 children with some Flu, all sick and need Oxygen. Now a fact of life I guess.
Hope the weather is better there. They say about drought, but we've just had rain, soon the deep cold approaches. Ugh! 🤣

Thank you, you too 👍

So, you mean you're in Europe? East of me? Wow!

It's been very very dry here all summer long. Since early may it only rained 4 or 5 times, never longer than 4 hours, so I guess that in the last 5 months we had less than a day of rain in total.
Dry rivers, lakes with low levels, the countryside looks like a desert, lots of trees died, crops went bad. We have hose bans in several cities.
This was made even worse by the very high temperatures all season long, never under 30°C / 86°F and up to 38°C / 100°F on certain days.
No rain in sight yet, but it's got much fresher in the last few days.

Indeed. A long bit of border, perhaps a fence here and there. Some military posts of course, some small portion of black Sea.
One of Europe's most amazing roads, the Transfaragas. Scenery I have to say matches that of many here in Europe. The mountains, wow. Volcanic and all that.

Sunny here, plus torrential rain! 🤦

Bang goes the dirt road tomorrow 🤣

Heard Spotty is 50/50 on coming home tomorrow, well see.

Best 👍

Good morning,
Really?
Interesting.....

Find out later I hope. He's about the only vet I know of here that travels to houses. My last vet hasn't even bothered to ask if Spotty is ok. 🙄

Better off without.

Rains turned to hail, full of snails.
Your weather, although the other end of the spectrum, would suit me just fine 🤣

Thank you, be well 👍

There is at least another user of this forum from your country ;)

This is what matters the most, and hopefully that 50/50 becomes a 50+50=100% that she can go home tomorrow 🤞

Good morning,
I, too, had to get rid of the old vet when she gave up taking care of my cat when she got a rare disease.
Rather than trying to understand what it was, she just gave up.
I had to rely on another vet, who understood and found a way out. The old one never asked me how my cat was.

Any news about Spotty? Is she coming home today/tomorrow?

Still dry, only much fresher here.

Pretty sad when a medic gives up. Glad you found another too.
Your English is superb by the way.
Better than my Romanian. I'm stubborn. Some words just don't make sense. If I can find the reason why they sound like they do. (Usually latin). They get added to my vocabulary. Lol!

For instance. I would never go to and fancy restaurant and be served crap!
Which actually means, carp (fish)
🤣
👍

Hi Stephanie, pleasure to meet you.
I could go get her tomorrow, however we both thought it wise for Monday to recoup more.
There is an anomaly with the Kidney's but we sort of understand this is not a major issue. It's peaceful and warm there, she has a Doggy companion too.
She cannot have another infusion, her veins in her paws are very small, but she is now eating and drinking.
Looking at her, I have no idea how my other inside cat BETA NEE PORTER survived -21°c for 21 days in winter.
Defies logic!

Thank you, please stay well. 👍

Any update on your kitty? Will he come home this weekend?
