So Cosmo was great at the vet today! He's a bit skittish when on the table and he screams the whole car ride but when he's in his transport crate he's calm and cuddles through the slits.
He got his vaccination and is now finally chipped!
We saw on the sono that he still has crystals in his bladder, but the bladder itself is not inflamed or anything like that. We just have to wait and give him his medication so the crystals disolve!

Thank you for the great update.

Yes, he is a normal cat with the vet. Can't blame him. :)

Fantastic on the vaccinations and chip.

Great his bladder isn't inflamed. Yes, those crystals can be stubborn. SO we'll have to wait to see if the crystals are the issue (I suspect they are) or if it is habit as well.

Thanks for the update. :) Take good care and talk soon. Can't wait to hear how you love the new house when it is done. :)

So I just wanted to pop in to give you a short update!
We estimate to move into the house around Christmas time! And hopefully we'll be able to cat proof the balcony for the move, so the cats can go out there!
Cosmo was very upset the first few weeks, because we weren't home much. He would pee in the bathtub and infront of the bathtub everyday. And when we were home in the late evening he would walk around and meow constantly.
Now something seems to have changed. He didn't pee in the bathtub for like 4 or 5 days? And he's really cuddly and lays nxet to me when I'm home, which is something he does really rarely.
I don't know what's different. Hope it stays this way!

Oh, exciting!!! What a Christmas gift that will be!!! That would be a great catio.

Oh, poor Cosmo. THAT will do it. Cats do not like change. :/

Oh wow. Any idea what the change might be? Something must have de-stressed him. Nice he is cuddly. Let us know how he is doing. Are you feeling any different at all? Cats pick up on emotions sometimes we don't even know about.

A cuddly happy cat is wonderful. I hope it stays that way as well!!!

Keep us up on how he is doing. Can't wait to hear how much you love the new house!!

Yes! That would indeed be a great Christmas gift!

I don't have any idea why it changed. I mean I'm happy that he's happy :)
I myself am struggling mentally at the moment, seasonal depression has always been a struggle for me and now working full time and after work, continuing to work in our house is taking quite a toll on me.
Cosmo cuddling me is the best thing for me right now!

"Yes! That would indeed be a great Christmas gift!" - Yes!!! Lucky you!!! Exciting. :)

"I don't have any idea why it changed. I mean I'm happy that he's happy :) " - Totally agree

"I myself am struggling mentally at the moment, seasonal depression has always been a struggle for me and now working full time and after work, continuing to work in our house is taking quite a toll on me." - I am so sorry. It is a lot and combined with the seasonal depression it does take its toll. A lot of people really struggle with shorter, darker days. :( Hopefully the home being done soon will help and the cats. Love does a lot of great things for the body and the mind. Hang in there and always feel free to reach out.

Did you start feeling more down in the past few weeks? Cats are amazing, they can sense so much. And Cosmo seems incredibly sensitive. I know the love I have for my cats (indoor and my ferals) warm my heart and make my days a lot better.

"Cosmo cuddling me is the best thing for me right now! " - Agreed!! Hang in there. The new home is coming soon and spring is a few months away. :) And the cats will help and if we can do anything of course we will try our best. :)

So it finally happened today! We moved houses! We are so tired but we are finally free off our terrible neighbours!
The cats are exploring the house still a bit apprehensive and Cosmo is meowing a lot, but the are mostly curious

CONGRATULATIONS!!! EXCITING!!!!

Yes, make sure you put out all the stuff with their scent on it. Cats are territorial so they need to feel ownership. Scent on their things will help.

Yes, cats don't like change but try to play with them, give them food, love, etc. I am sure they will LOVE the new house!!!

Let us know. :)

The cats are finally settling down. Monty chases from one window to the next just to watch all the birds. Cosmo wants to get into the basement, where he is not allowed to go, and scratches at the door so what's new 😂
They don't chase each other to the point of someone hissing or growling anymore.
And the sleep together, like a lot more.
Here have some pics

After a month of living here, I can say that Cosmo picked up his old habits.
He peed in the bathtub a few times and today I discovered that he peed in the basement. I don't know if there are more spots down there where he pees. I prepared another litter box and put it in the corner where he peed. Hope this helps. I think it's because he wants access to the other basement rooms, but I can't change that because there are items in there which are not save for cats. And I can't risk not finding them in an emergency situation, because they are stuffed between boxes somewhere.

Another thing is. Where Monty was chasing Cosmo in our flat, now the roles are reversed. Cosmo will chase him up and down the stairs and fur will fly, but no one gets hurt or acts different.
We are still not fully settled in and I'm really tired after work, so they don't get as muchc playtime as they might need

well ... marking their territory is somewhat normal for cats ... We humans do not understand it but ... there are smells in new carpets or rugs that just need to be changed ... My cats are good with their litter boxes but we give them cardboard boxes to play with and one morning ... they peed on a box ... likely because in their mind it stank like someone else ... I got the tip a long time ago to provide scratching posts everywhere for scent spreading - my cats love those corrugated cardboard things or mats on door corners ... first thing they do in the morning is ... scratch everywhere to make sure this place is still " theirs " lol - Cats hate change so even moving one piece of furniture can upset the system ... Chasing and playing is normal for cats ... my pride of 5 ( 2 girls, 3 boys) sound like a herd of crazy wild things in the morning when they start running and chasing just for fun ... Occasionally - especially right now as the boys are in that " special " age ... the boys are rather rough and tumble with each other to assert their dominance - I make sure there are enough hiding spots to get out of each other's hair as they only have two rooms most of the time. A cat community is much like a human one ... there are days where they are all snuggling and days where they have a spat ...They usually figure these things out on their own and it is faster than with me intervening. Last week I thought one of my boys was getting a bit bullied and I gave him some alone time with me in the bedroom ... all he wanted was .... to get back with his friends and then come in together.

"After a month of living here, I can say that Cosmo picked up his old habits." - Ok :/

"He peed in the bathtub a few times" - Ok. I wonder if his crystals are bothering him again?

" and today I discovered that he peed in the basement." - Ok. That could be him smelling something and telling that something "I OWN THIS". Was he acting different at all before that? Does he sniff around a lot down there? Act differently?

" I don't know if there are more spots down there where he pees." - Ok, if you have a black light you might want to look around. If it was a previous animal I would think he would have done it already.

Are there windows that look out from the basement?

"I prepared another litter box and put it in the corner where he peed. " - GREAT. That will give him an option to "own" that territory in an appropriate way.

"Hope this helps. I think it's because he wants access to the other basement rooms," - Oh, ok. Has he ever been in there before? What is in there? Are there scents of anyone in there?

" but I can't change that because there are items in there which are not save for cats." - Ok. Yes.

"And I can't risk not finding them in an emergency situation, because they are stuffed between boxes somewhere." - Agreed!!!

"Another thing is. Where Monty was chasing Cosmo in our flat, now the roles are reversed. Cosmo will chase him up and down the stairs and fur will fly, but no one gets hurt or acts different." - Ok, good that no one acts differently after. How does his body language look? Does it look like play? Sounds like rough play. COULD be redirected aggression BUT I would think we would see it in how they behave after it.

"We are still not fully settled in and I'm really tired after work, so they don't get as muchc playtime as they might need " - Ahhhhhhhh, yes. Change, normal life stresses, less play to drain energy, etc. Very well could be that.

Let's keep an eye on them. I am inclined to not worry about the rough play. The peeing I am wondering about the bathtub as it might suggest some discomfort, etc. The basement peeing sounds like either territorial marking or not another option so let's see if the litter box down there gets used.

Flybear makes a very good point. Think about adding some scent soakers in the basement as well - scratching post, small tree maybe, some bedding.

We'll figure it out. Hang in there. :)

Hey I was absent for quite a while!
I'll definitely consider adding more scratching posts around there.

We continued his treatment for crystals and I check his pH levels regularly to make sure that they are perfect so that the struvite is getting dissolved.
He doesn't seem any different than any other time.
He meows after eating and before using the litter box, but he doesn't seem to have any discomfort while peeing and his behaviour afterwards is also totally normal. It also doesn't change with pain medications.

He still pees in our basement and we just seem to have to accept that. Especially because of the floor there it's difficult to clean all of it.
We use enzymatic cleaner but it seeps into the floor and we can't really wash it away.

Other than that, they are both highly energetic and chaotic little fluff balls. They annoy the shit out of each other but it's still a brotherly kind of love.

I'll definitely try with more scratching things!

Hi, great to hear from you!!! Well, life does get in the way so understandable.

"I'll definitely consider adding more scratching posts around there." - Great. Never hurts in my opinion.

"We continued his treatment for crystals and I check his pH levels regularly to make sure that they are perfect so that the struvite is getting dissolved." - Great!!! He is in very good hands.

"He doesn't seem any different than any other time." - Interesting

"He meows after eating and before using the litter box," - Yes. Common.

" but he doesn't seem to have any discomfort while peeing" - GREAT!!!

" and his behaviour afterwards is also totally normal." - Great

" It also doesn't change with pain medications." - Then it probably is not pain which is good.

"He still pees in our basement and we just seem to have to accept that." - Ok. Do you have litter boxes down there? I forget.

" Especially because of the floor there it's difficult to clean all of it." - Yes

Any chance any animals get into the basement at times? Or did the prior owners have animals?

"We use enzymatic cleaner but it seeps into the floor and we can't really wash it away." - Yes. Though I would think that would still destroy the scent. Not sure.

"Other than that, they are both highly energetic and chaotic little fluff balls." - Awwwwwwwwww. They are SO ADORABLE!!!

" They annoy the shit out of each other but it's still a brotherly kind of love." - Hahahaha, yep, like only family can!!! ;) They do love each other.

"I'll definitely try with more scratching things!" - Sounds good

Hope all is well, you are enjoying the new house and enjoy the summer and the good weather!! Great to hear from you, thanks for the update!!! :)

Yes two huge open Litter boxes. They are his favourite.

We found no signs of rodents or similar animals. The owners didn't have a pet for many years and there is no was for an animal to get in there

We figured it might be because we changed the enzymatic cleaner. We now switched back to the other one and hope that helps

On another note. Let me introduce you to Eve! (Which is short for evil haha)
IMG_20220606_161006.jpg

We come full circle here 4 years later!
She's a little 3 1/2 weeks old bottlebaby.
She was taken in by a rescue who specialises in raising kittens. They have private people who care for the kittens. So this litter of 4 kittens arrived in our vets office late May. All of them way to thin, with upper respiratory infections and so on.
The smallest one was weighing just 170g.
We treated them and send them home with their Foster mom.
A week later she came back with only 3 kittens, because on was left in a clinic because of aspiration pneumonia. She was left there for a week or so until she was returned to the foster mom last Wednesday. The day after she had an appointment because the kittens health seemed bad.
She came in and yes, her breathing was laboured and she was having an eye infection. But she was in good spirits. As the possibility of euthanasia was discussed I offered to give here 1 on 1 care for the rest of the day, to see if she could survive. And I really wanted to hit the woman over the head, because of course a little baby could and would not drink with his nose crusted completely shut, while here breathing was already not great.
So I called the rescue later that day and said that the little one would need further close care and offered to take her in and give her a forever home.
Well here we are. One week later and her weight jumped from 240g when I got her to 330g! Her breathing is so much better and she is just so cute! But also likes to bite my hands so she's our evil little girl!
Monty hates her and Cosmo seems cautions but interested. But we now know who to introduce cats right? :D

So here habe some pictures of my little one

"Yes two huge open Litter boxes. They are his favourite." - Great. Surely not that then.

"We found no signs of rodents or similar animals. The owners didn't have a pet for many years and there is no was for an animal to get in there" - Ok, so probably not territorial. :/

"We figured it might be because we changed the enzymatic cleaner. We now switched back to the other one and hope that helps" - It shouldn't be that BUT let's see.

I keep wondering if it is some lingering fear of something bad that happened (pain, discomfort, etc in a litter box). In the US we call it PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Something traumatic that happened at some point that comes back at times in the future.

"On another note. Let me introduce you to Eve! (Which is short for evil haha) " - Awwwwwwwwwwww. I see the pictures GORGEOUS!!!!! Innocent looking. Must be deceiving........................ ;)

"We come full circle here 4 years later!

"She was taken in by a rescue who specialises in raising kittens. They have private people who care for the kittens." - GREAT!!!

" So this litter of 4 kittens arrived in our vets office late May. All of them way to thin, with upper respiratory infections and so on.

"We treated them and send them home with their Foster mom." - Great

"A week later she came back with only 3 kittens, because on was left in a clinic because of aspiration pneumonia. She was left there for a week or so until she was returned to the foster mom last Wednesday. The day after she had an appointment because the kittens health seemed bad." - Oh my

"She came in and yes, her breathing was laboured and she was having an eye infection. But she was in good spirits. As the possibility of euthanasia was discussed" - Oh my

" I offered to give here 1 on 1 care for the rest of the day, to see if she could survive." - YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!!

" And I really wanted to hit the woman over the head, because of course a little baby could and would not drink with his nose crusted completely shut, while here breathing was already not great." - I hear you. :/

"So I called the rescue later that day and said that the little one would need further close care and offered to take her in and give her a forever home." - WOW!!!!

"Well here we are. One week later and her weight jumped from 240g when I got her to 330g! Her breathing is so much better and she is just so cute!" - WOW!!!! GREAT JOB!!! She is ADORABLE!!! She looks healthy!!

"But also likes to bite my hands so she's our evil little girl!" - Hahahaha, yep. :/

"Monty hates her" - Awwwww for now. I am not surprised to be honest.

" and Cosmo seems cautions but interested." - Great

" But we now know who to introduce cats right? :D " - YES!!!!! :)

"So here habe some pictures of my little one " - She is SO GORGEOUS!!! She looks healthy (GREAT JOB!!!).

When you are ready we'll get to the intro process. The boys are a bit rough so we'll have to watch them BUT her being a female should help.

Exciting!!!! :) THANK YOU SO MUCH for saving her life!!!! YOU are SO AMAZING AND AWESOME!!!!

So a little update on eve :)

Monty is really great with her?! He plays with her carefully and seems to like her much more now????? I prepared our bedroom for her today, because she managed to escape her play pen haha and he was running around with her it was really cute!

We also take in one of her litter mates on Sunday so she doesn't have to grow up without a proper playing buddy!

So I'll just dump a few more pictures of her here

So today little Amy moved in with us!
Eve and Amy are great together! They play much and it's adorable!
Monty isn't pleased right now 😅 and doesn't seem to recognise Eve anymore. He hisses and grolws at both of them. He just needs a few days to get used to her :)
