TY for your advice but we never use plastic only stainless steel sterilized in the dishwasher. I researched this issue in depth, went to the vet and had Whitney my cat tested for allergies in 2014 when it started. Regardless of all the research we still do not know her specific trigger.

She is 3 years old today and had the "pouty lip"  or " EG" a total of 6 times since I got her at 10 weeks. I cut out fish of all types the last year and feed raw most of the time. That seems to have helped but I really do not know. Allergies are allergies I guess.

My cat, Lily also has a swollen lower lip and small white sores. This happens a lot. The vet said take away plastic bowls. That didn't work. She only uses glass bowls, only eats grain free food, and we do NOT have fleas at all. She doesn't have a single flea. She never goes outside. The steroid shot works temporarily. Then it comes back . All of these reasons are just guesses because Vet doesn't know what to do ! So frustrating! There has got to be a reason this happens! But where to get the proper information ?

Been to the vet this morning and Tinker has an allergy to fleas so she has had a steroid injection and also had some Stronghold flea spot on applied, i also got Stronghold for Wellington and a spray for the whole house which has been done already .

Wellington was not amused he was growling in a corner for about half hour lol , but i am already seeing dead fleas so something is working and the swelling on Tinker's mouth has already started to reduce so all good news once again x
Hello! Please tell me what spray did you use in your house that worked so well? Thank you!

My cats lower lip looks exactly the same as yours! I was gone for a day and a morning and I noticed my cat had this swollen lip. She has had it before and the problem was dental issues but she has since had the bad teeth removed. I am going to call the vet tomorrow. I will let you know if I find anything out.

My little boy, AleKai is being treated by my vet here in California!.  Dr. O'Neil @ Adobe Animal Hospital is amazing.  She figured out that it is an allergic reaction to plastic.  Unfortunately, that means we cannot feed him anything from or in plastic.  So NO plastic bowls, NO dry food from a plastic bag, NO using scoops, spoons, liners, toys, brushes with plastic coated bristles or made from plastic.  He actually can go as long as a year without an episode - His are sore and make it hard for him to eat or clean himself - so we work really hard to keep plastics away from him.  He can use a plastic litter box but everything else we keep away from him if we can - and of course all his favorite toys and everything he likes to eat is in or made of plastic...  But we take him in to her about once a year (sometimes twice) and she has him back to normal within a couple days!!

Hi,

Our kitty, Jelli, gets this intermittently. She doesn't have an official diagnosis--her eosinophils were tested and it came out negative. We don't use plastic bowls, but she apparently has pica and an odd taste for chewing on plastic and other bizarre things. I don't know what she gets into when we're not home.

Anyway, after several months free of her ulcer, it came back this week out of the blue. Last night, it was very large with the white spots others have mentioned. Our other Kitty, BK, is on a Thorne curcumin product (Curcuvet), for GI issues. Knowing that curcumin is anti-inflammatory, I decided to give Jelli some last night and this morning her ulcer was down by half. I have her another dose later in the morning and it's almost gone now. Anyway, I wanted to share this for what it's worth, because every other holistic approach I tried (Vit C, Lysine) didn't work. Last time, she got a shot of prednisone, which I wanted to avoid this time. Prednisone does great things, but I only like it as a last resort. Her pred shot several months ago may have worked, but it was slow and I don't know for sure how much it helped. This time, either her ulcer when down as fast as it appeared or the Curcumin product really worked. Not sure, but it's worth a try. I'd love to know if it works for other kitties.

Hi, please see my post on this thread. For whatever it's worth, the Curcuvet might help your kitty. I really think it's helping mine, but can't say for sure. It's worth a try and could be better than prednisone or antibiotics.

Hi ... Was wondering what flea stuff you were using (is it for the house?) you mentioned it keeps fleas away for 12 months... Thanks so much :) :chescat:

My little Butters just got the swollen lip. He's a year old and this is the first time this has happened. He's eating fine, but does seem a little more lethargic than usual. But it's been really hot outside lately so he could just be trying to cool off. I noticed some fleas on him and he eats from a plastic bowl. Going to get him treated for the fleas and try a new bowl. Hope the swelling goes down! This feed has been really helpful!

Did you figure out what was causing it? Levi is 7 months old and has the same problem.

I'm pretty sure it was the plastic bowl, but we also gave him a flea treatment. It took about a month before it finally all went away. Hasn't come back since.

Good luck!

yesterday i noticed.. his fur has fallen out from his lower lip - and today even more fur has gone.. so went to the vet immediately and they took a print with a tape to look under the microscope and said they didnt find anything. told me to disinfect it and put cream on (one that humans use for feet fungus) and if things get worse in a week to look for a cat dermatologist specialist. was feeling a bit disappointed having paid a not so low bill for no information really. really scared now reading all these post.. sayings its allergies - from what exactly could it be- there were no changes in his life other than being neutered two weeks ago. oh dear.

---> from those who had a similar case - how long did it take for the fur to grow back??

I was told to add some moist food to our kittens diet as she wasn't gaining well. It's been almost 2mths, and now she looks like this. 20181014_211303.jpg
