Cat has gone missing

Hi all

My 2 year old female spayed cat went missing on Thursday 17th October. She was seen at 2.00 am and 1.30 pm the following day by neighbours, but nothing since. This is so unlike her and we are desperately worried. We live in a very rural area and my husband has walked miles looking for her. We have hung our clothes out, left windows open at night, but she has not returned. We have 4 other cats, but she is very confident and the dominant cat in the household, so I cannot imagine she has been driven out by the others.

I have printed flyers and will post them through neighbours letter boxes tonight. I have also informed my vet and put her picture on a local Facebook page.

My husband has checked the roads and there is no body, so we think she is still alive.

Why would she just up and leave?

She may have been chased so far that she may be lost, or a coyote got her. I pray not, and there should be SOME sign of a fight if that was the case. I would keep walking further and further, looking and listening for birds scolding, they have keener eyes than ours and often find missing/hiding cats. I will pray she returns home!

Sorry should have said I live in the UK, so we don't have coyotes.

It might be worth ringing round local vet's and asking if anyone has handed her in. Or the local rspca. She may have been mistaken for a stray if in a area were there are a few.Even if she's chipped tell them what she looks like because vet's use different databases when looking for owner's so they might have her microchip number but not know what database to look on for your contact details.

And the chances are that she is hunkered down close to home. Cats are masters at getting into tiny places. Unless they are VERY overweight, if their heads will fit through an opening, so will their bodies. Check under bushes, in brambles, in tiny openings in buildings. Cats are most active at dawn and dusk, so focus on those times. USE A FLASHLIGHT! Many, many cats have been located by their eye shine!

Apart from the above the other thing I could think of is that she could be stuck up a tree or have gone down some sort of animal hole (rabbit, badger etc). If you routes you could check if you hear her calling anywhere… (but am sure you have already)
Otherwise - if she is prone to jumping in cars - are there any people who visited you where she could have checked out their car/truck and been taken for a ride?

She is back. My husband went out looking again. He called and called and heard a meow coming from a garage. The owners were not in but the garage door was unlocked so he managed to open it about 2 ft and crept through and grabbed her.

First thing she did was drink a ton of water and goats milk and ate a small amount of food and then I noticed she was limping and couldn't weight bear on her left rear leg. We took her to the emergency vet who was surprised she wasn't too dehydrated and she ate a few dreamies there. The vet said it looks like she has fractured her leg, gave her pain control and recommended we go to our regular vet for xrays, which I will do tomorrow. We will know then if it can be fixed or whether it will be amputated, but we are so relieved she is back.

After her 10 days in the garage she is a bit stinky and she smells of urine. Should we just leave her to settle and clean herself or should we clean her? I don't want to stress her out, but would welcome your advice xx

That‘s fantastic news that you‘ve found her, but so sorry she‘s had some sort of accident and fractured her leg. Even though cats and dogs can do wonderully with only three legs, I really hope that it‘s not a too complex fracture that can be fixed.
Due to the fracture I‘d try and restrict her movement as much as possible. If she’s tolerant of it, maybe you could just wipe her off with a warm damp cloth, leaving her injured leg aside. Otherwise maybe you could ask your vet if could assist with cleaning just after/before the op when she‘s under anaesthetic, but of course her body temperature will have to be maintained, so I‘m not sure if they‘ll do that and have no experience here.

She's good, xrays have confirmed her leg is fixable, so she is in for surgery on Wednesday x

And she‘s such a cutie! She’s sure so glad to be home, relaxing on her soft bed.
I‘m also positive all will go well but please keep us posted as to how things are coming along.
Could the vet discern what could have happened to her from the type of fracture?
