My cat has lost interest in her normal wand toy recently so I bought a Da Bird feather one (apparently super popular among cats). I had two play sessions with her today with this toy and she was super interested in it and played for a long time - even held it in her mouth and walked around the house (since I had the wand, I had to follow her...who's walking who? ;)).

The only thing is that she was also growling when she was playing, even growling when she had the feathers in her mouth. She also made huffing and puffing noises (to me they sounded like big exhales) a few times, so I thought she was tired and tried to take the toy away, but she immediately started chasing it again.

Do cats growl when they are super interested in / having a lot fun with a prey toy? Is this normal? Or should I discourage this (i.e. switch to a less "real" toy for a less intense response)?

It's normal:) They just think the toy is real as they're wrestling with it.
