I have 3 litterboxes out for my 2, big cats and I've noticed stains on the wall/baseboard behind them.  I clean out the boxes every morning and evening, and sometimes more.

My 10 y.o. was in the box this morning and I noticed his tail up & shaking.  I looked over and the pee was shooting straight out at the wall!!!  I didn't stop him for fear of scaring him, but I don't know what's going on.

I read about the spraying but he's neutered, and this was in the litterbox -- I haven't seen spray anywhere around the house.

Why is he doing this??  And how can I get him to squat!?

Make sure to get him at least one covered litter box and he will spray the wall INSIDE the litter box.  I have a female who does this.  We call it Elevatr Butt Syndrome, they start low, then raise up.  Outside, male cats often pee standing up, and yes that is sprayin, and it feels comfortable.  I have both covered and uncovered boxes here and the ones who stand up actually seem to like the covered boxes, so they spray the back of the boxes inside.

One of my girls started peeing higher and at the edge of the box.  We were able to solve the problem by getting taller boxes.  Even storage totes work for some cats.

I had a high-pee-er.  As she got older it became more and more common.  She had some arthritis which made crouching uncomfortable.  I got a NVR Miss litter box, problem solved!
