Hi guys it’s been awhile since I posted here. Thought I didn’t have any issues until yesterday. This will be long so bear with me.

As everyone knows I have 2 cats Scooter & Casper both are males both neutered. Scooter will be 6 years old next month and Casper is 2 years old. Casper is fine my issue right now is Scooter. On Sept 9th 2023 I had to rush Scooter to the ER vet cause he was peeing blood. We found out he had an UTI the summary from the vet said bacteria in urine. We were told to give him RX urinary food. Scooter ate it for a month Casper eats urinary food too. It’s just cheaper & stress free to feed the same thing. Anyway after a month Scooter turned away from Hills which is what we gave him. I asked the vet could we go to non rx food cause the rx is very expensive they gave the ok. Tried both Hills(thinking it would be better) & Royal Canin non rx urinary food he wouldn’t touch them. Then went to Purina Pro Plan Urinary food which he loved the wet but the dry did not agree with him. So for dry we went with Purina One Urinary wet. We have had no issues for over a year until yesterday. An hour before Scooter & Casper got their 2am wet food Scooter threw up it was a hairball I was thinking ok he has a hairball he will be fine. When it came to wet food time he wouldn’t touch it then would only eat a couple of bites and walk away. Sometime between 5:30am & 7:00am yesterday morning he threw up again then had a small bout of diarrhea. But all day yesterday he would not touch wet food. He will eat the dry food but not the wet food. I thought maybe it was a bad can but Casper is fine. I opened a new can Scooter still wouldn’t touch it. He will eat wet food if I add some dry food in it. The only thing I can think is different is that Sunday my mom made salmon cakes for dinner. Usually when that happens both cats gets the juice from the salmon since my mom uses canned salmon. He also got some Monday so I am thinking that upset his stomach cause he won’t even touch his Churu & he loves those things.

I tried canned pure pumpkin from the store he won’t eat it. He is eating dry food though but I don’t want him eating solely dry food as cats need wet food to keep them hydrated. I’m thinking of going to Petco and get the Weruva pumpkin puree see if that helps him. I don’t want to try a different wet food cause I am scared if I take him off urinary food he will have a UTI again and I will lose him cause I can’t afford to take him to the vet. My financial situation took a hard hit this year. I mean I’m 35 living with my parents cause my situation sucks. I don’t want to veere from urinary food unless the vet said I can which like I said I can’t afford right now otherwise he would be going tomorrow. So u don’t know what to do.

Do I back off of wet food for a couple of days and let him eat dry food til his stomach settles? Do I mix in dry food with his wet until I can get him to eat wet food by itself? Cause he will eat the wet food if I add a little bit of dry to it. Should I get the Weruva pumpkin puree to see if it settles his stomach? That I can afford cause Petco has it on sale right now. I’m just at a lost on what to do I feel helpless. Sorry this is so long but any help is appreciated.

This is what I am talking about with Weruva Pumpkin: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/28-oz-slay-cat-28z-pumpkin-p-2892815

Can you add some water to your cats dry food, or will your kitty not eat if you do? I know mine will turn their noses up if I try to add wet food to their dry x.x Is he drinking water while eating the dry? I feed my kitties purina pro plan urinary tract food and IAMS Urinary Health for dry (which is what my vet feeds their cats I found out.)

My cats LOVE weruva Pumpkin though. I give it to them to settle their stomachs and they think they're just getting treats so if you think it will help, def get it. I wouldn't STOP your cat from eating dry, since he needs something in his stomach.

I don't think letting him eat dry food for a few days will cause a UTI, especially if the food is urinary health food. I say try the pumpkin but def watch his litter box activity to make sure he isn't having urinary issues.

Have you looked into seeing if you qualify for carecredit, by the way?

He used to at one point I am not sure if he will eat the dry food if I add water on it. He ate some wet food when I added some dry food to it. He does drink water cause he pees twice a day. Except on rainy days for some reason he will pee once then hold it til morning unless I lead him to the bathroom and keep leading him to his litter box. Which yesterday was a rainy day and today is a rainy day. But his pee is always normal color just he pees a huge clump if he holds it til morning. I did get canned pumpkin from Walmart but he would not touch it. So I figured maybe he will eat the one from Weruva. I’m thinking maybe the salmon juice upset his stomach or it could be hairballs. I was told pumpkin helps with both.

I did have care credit it’s how I paid for his emergency visit. But my financial situation took a hard hit so I had to let it go cause I can’t afford to finish paying it off so they won’t let me have it back until I do that.

Hi. I'd stick with the dry since it is urinary care food, and add some wet food to it because he will eat it that way. Give him some time with that combo to see if the salmon was the issue. Don't throw a bunch of changes at once. One thing at a time.

Oh I won’t throw too much on him cause I don’t want to make it worse. If he never got a UTI I would be fine. But ever since he did I get paranoid when the littlest things go wrong. Hope I don’t sound crazy with that.

Quick question: I got a pack of the Weruva Pumpkin. I mixed it with dry food for him to eat it cause he wouldn’t eat it plan. I have the rest in the fridge. Can the rest be frozen like you can with canned pumpkin? Like if I don’t use it all by Friday can I freeze the rest?

I honestly don't know, I think you can put it in the fridge? But I have never had any left over to worry about >.<

The Petco website mentioned that the product can be frozen using an ice cube tray to make small cubes but the Weruva website doesn't mention freezing the product. You can try using an ice cube tray but once frozen, put the cubes in a freezer bag to reduce the chance of freezer burn.

I will probably add it in with the canned pumpkin I froze cause I know I won’t use all of it. After giving him some last night he ate all of his wet food today. So I wanna freeze the rest I have.
