Thanks everyone.  It's been about 3 weeks since her last treatment ended and so far so good.  We did a Elisa test 2 weeks after the meds ended and it came back clear with no giardia.  She still has loose bowels at times.  It seems like every couple of stools are lose and they have an door to it but not nearly as rancid as when she had giardia.  I did buy the Prozyme but since she is still in the clear for giardia, I have just been adding it to her wet food each day.  I'm very hopeful this is the end of the giardia nightmare that lasted 2 1/2  months and feel like life is starting to go back to normal.  My vet thinks her current soft stools are from normal kitten diahrrea and also that her digestive system is still on the mend from all the antibiotics she had to go on to treat both rounds of giardia.  Maia is so happy to be out of the bedroom and I'm not just dealing with her being a crazy monkey that likes to get into trouble!!!

Why not the Panacur?  Did he have bad experiences with it?  Vet specialist put my cat on it.

I'm adding on here because this is such a focused thread and so much information is here that might help others researching this issue.

I came here to find if there is a pill form of Panacur, because I just gave my kitty day 2 dose, given to me in syringe by Vet Specialist.  Kitty gags and foams and is very unhappy about being given this and I'd like something less traumatic.

He was in ER and Vet Specialist with high fever of unknown etiology, and they discovered whipworm and giardia.  He is on antibiotics (Veraflox) and Panacur.  He will tolerate (barely) the Veraflox, but foams at the mouth and hates the Panacur.  Poor baby.  I don't want to torture him or poison him or make him hate me, but I DO want him to be okay.  (He was a stray who came to my door in September)

I have two other cats and there's no doubt I will have to treat them too.  But I need to know the right way to do this.

I read of one vet who won't prescribe Panacur, but prefers Flagyl.  Any reason why?  (well, the horrible taste might be one!)

I'd appreciate input!

Thanks mucho.

Flagyl also tastes horrible. When I had the C.diff and Salmonella in 2011, I had to take Cipro and Flagyl for 10 days. Nasty, nasty. But they cured me.

There is no pill form of panacur... i was looking for the same thing. My cats hated the panacur. My vet gave me a prescription for another medicine that they make in treat form that os a chicken flavor, i spent 55 dollars for nothing. my cats wouldnt even take it masked in food. They also have what they call tiny tabs. They are smaller than a tic tac. I never tried them Because i just decided to take my cats to the vet everyday for 5 days and had them admister the panacur.

My older cat got it from my recently rescued cat. Its been about 3 days since we finished the medicine. My vet also told me to clean their butts periodically and clean their litter boxes down woth bleach because it will kill it. My cats never had any symptoms, we only found out when we took them in for a full exam.

Hey folks, our little Zoey has intermittent diarrhea and goes outside the box when she does. Tested positive for giardia and so did one other of our three cats (although no symptoms). Looked for an alternative to metronidazole and found it! Check out secnidazole! One dose does it! I had to order from a compounding pharmacy in Arizona and it costs about $45 per dose, but think it will be worth it. Will try this weekend.

Following up.  It's a year later now.

A few months ago, one of my kitties had a whipworm coming out of her butt, so I bought Panacur (fenbendazole) worked wonders with all of my cats. One tube as horse paste did four cats for several treatments. Maybe $10-15 @Amazon. Safeguard is another brand name. I also bought some more syringes so I could pre-fill them and dose them quickly.

I gave all of them the three days, then a month later another three days.  Great stuff!
