Adopted my beautiful girl Widget a few months ago. With her being longhair, I’m having a difficult time figuring out what pattern of tabby she is. When I rescued her, all they told me is that she’s a “brown tabby,” but I’m nearly certain she’s a brown tabby tortie, since she has very defined orangey-red areas. Her whiskers are black and white, and she has multicolored beans with coloring that line up with whatever her fur color near that bean is, which further supports her being a torbie IMO. Her coloring definitely looks different in different lighting, I swear all the pictures are of the same cat lol. One of the interesting things is her paws have a very distinctive line where the patterning completely changed. The one thing I haven’t really been able to get a picture of are the brown (not black or red) spots on her belly, although I know spotted bellies are commonly seen in most tabby patterns so that’s probably not helpful. At this point I’m thinking maybe she’s a ticked pattern?

Torbie 100% and I would say she is a mackerel. Longhairs dont tend to really have strong looking markings. I have a brown/white tabby and brown/white torbie myself. Neither of them you can tell they are mackerels lol. Especially my boy who is a warm toned brown tabby, his black markings often look sun bleached so they blend in nicely now lol.

I feel like maybe this picture I took the other night shows some of the pattern better

Yep looks mackerel to me, ticked tabbies look more peppered for lack of term, you cant see any stripes on the body itself other than the legs and tail. In the photo of her on the cabinets you can see the stripes on her body better. Cool toned ones can be more tricky since they are dark so the black blends into the coat more (especially in certain lighting) but I see stripes for sure in her coat. Looks like she has some fur loss on the ears like my girl does, she had food allergies and even though she's better the fur still doesnt really grow back oddly lol.

I am not good with coat patterns, but I was just admiring her pictures. Thank you for posting them. Wow, she is gorgeous. She has a very unusual look and such beautiful eyes. Bless you for adopting her and welcome to TCS.

I think she has a mackerel tabby pattern overall, but in a couple of the pics it looks a little classic. Being a torbie (that pic of her foot looks calico too, lol), she will have more splotchy areas where the red comes in than a usual mackerel pattern. Either way she is a beauty. 😁

It can be hard to tell what the pattern is on a lh cat. Even for Merlin who was a fluffy short hair ginger tabby tuxedo, it was difficult to see his pattern. He was basically a mackerel but I discovered over time he had a lot of spots in areas you would not expect in a mackerel pattern. He had the most beautiful beetle pattern on the top of his head and the markings on his face etc were exquisite. I always regretted that they chopped his top ear off in the ear tip.
