Yay for the knitting thread! Also yay for that mohair for 25 bucks, BARGAIN! Was it a marketplace as in one you went to, or online?

@GranolaLouise I‘ve bought yarn from thewoolwarehouse! They ship to Australia pretty quickly too. I used to buy most of my online stuff from Lovecrafts, but haven’t for a while. I’m delighted to be living somewhere there are several local yarn stores plus a Spotlight and Lincraft after years stuck in a small town with one Lincraft I had to get a lift to visit. There are also the Melbourne stores that sell online - Craftee Cottage, Wondoflex, Mooroolbark Wool and the like.

I tried top-down once and messed up the increases immediately … never tried again. I like bottom-up. I’ve an outrageously pricey pattern (I’m justifying it on the basis that it’s an Australian designer ) waiting to be started that’s knit sideways. It’s in 5 ply and I’m waiting for the LYS to tell me they’ve ordered the Patons Bluebell I’m using. I’ll have to learn bobbles for this one. Only fancy stitch I ever do is cables.

I tried baby alpaca once. Winter jacket, never worn over skin. Itchiest thing I’ve ever made, I gave it away.

I really like Heirloom Australia merino yarn. I was Very Cross to learn they’ve discontinued their Easycare 5ply line, it had just the colour I wanted for this jumper.
Love love love this sweater- The way it drapes over the shoulders yet it's still a tailored & not sloppy looking is my taste---- very very nice. All the sweaters I am drawn to when shopping are one piece it seems - silk bends are my favorite

When I was very young I was crazy about Angora until I was old enough to understand the process

I'm still trying to make squares and not doing well at all....

The yarn arrived! I think that's the fastest I've ever had a delivery from England. They shipped it on Friday 10th, it probably sat at Heathrow or wherever over the weekend, and I received it on Wednesday 15th.
It's not quite the same as the Lovecrafts photo, but it is a very nice shade.

I have some things to show off- I'm a beginner knitter so someday I'll do a sweater! In a while :)

I crocheted my daughter her 2 cats, Beans and Bleu:

Then I knitted her a pair of fingerless mitts:

Waffles is approving my neck cowl- alpaca yarn a friend gave me:

And the finished cowl/neck scarf, finished tonight- it is nice yarn, different thickness so adds interest (and helps hide my mistakes). It's going to be below zero and a high of 4 degrees on Monday so I'll be trying it out!:

It's a lighter shade, the photo looked deeper. Sort of a more faded denim vs a newer one, lol. Trouble is I don't think it will do well with the pattern I'd picked. However I have a pattern in stash that should be a good substitute (as long as it isn't another of Patons' really badly written ones ...)

What gorgeous work, all of them! The mitts are particularly clever imo - straight up and down but the texture makes them interesting.

It does look like a perfect match for a faded denim-I find it's very hard to choose colors from photos online

The mitts are a pattern by Roxanne Richardson on Ravelry, simple and knit flat. I learned how to add on to a finished project, I'd made them too narrow for my daughter's hands! I hadn't stitched the sides together yet.

Yes, you can see photos of the same thing (eg yarn) from different shops and they'll look wildly different. I had hoped the Lovecrafts pic was accurate, because the one for the grey I bought for the Phoebe jumper was. Oh well, it's still a nice colour, and I'll start the alternative pattern at knitting this morning.

Adding to a finished project would be a very useful skill! Where did you learn to do it?

I watched YouTube videos:
This one,

And this one, which shows how to pick up stitches on all kinds of edges and has different ways to do it, chock full of great info, and she (Roxanne Richardson) is an excellent teacher- she's a go-to for me to learn things:
