Well,I got so disgusted with my not improving after months of trying to relax my tense akward hands to not have so much tension I couldn't put a straight pin through my stitch that I threw it all in a big bag and tossed it in the closet!!! I start out beautiful and get tighter, tighter And tighter....so I gave up

My dear friend has been knitting longer than I'm alive ,she used to sell antique dolls and repair or replace their handmade clothing- her sewing stitches are incredible- anything she picks up is done meticulously and perfect, from rochet to needlepoint, you name it and so I asked her if she wanted the stuff I bought, yarn, needles ,counter etc..... and she said ' oh no,you're not quitting, you just need to be shown, you probably don't relax your hands because you don't know how to hold the needles or your thread"

So next week I start my lessons - shes going to help me😀

I wish I could find someone like that for crochet! All the lessons here are in group or inline and I need 1 on 1 fo that. One shop offers that , but it is almost $100 for under an hour! I can't afford that. You are lucky Kwik

Wow- that's alot of money..... yes, she's a very very dear friend,we live in the same Condo community ,I've ONLY lived here 25 yrs,she here 50!!!

She said she's going to show me crotchet as well because its easier handling one needle and then I could see which I'm more comfortable with ..... she says everyone has trouble with tension unless they are shown

When I told her what I do with using my hand to loop the stitch she laughed and Saud just your finger moves up down like a bobbin and the yarn glides along freely..... Sounds so nice n completely different from what I'm doing- 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm excited again

Oh & the lady next door told me they have classes at our library once a week ( free) but they are a little afvanced.... she offered to help me get started but then I'd have to hear about her allergies to cats..." No thank you"🫤

So glad your friend is there to show you the techniques and help you sort out your tension problems!

Blimey, that's expensive. The yarn shop I go to undercharges for lessons, it's a tenth of that! She does it because teaching knitting and crochet is what she really loves doing.

Even worse is the cost of bringing the finished pieces and having them sewn together into a finished sweater.(you stole my favorite 'swear' word..BLIMEY) LOL

Some people get around that by learning to knit in the round - no seams. I prefer seaming, it's just a matter of pinning it evenly and not pulling the stitches too tight.

Have you asked the library about their classes? Your neighbour said they were a bit advanced, but they might have more on offer than she knew. Are there things like local neighbourhood/community centres where you live that might offer anything?

I actually did find a class that looks fun. It's near by and it's open to all people of all ages, and would be a fun way to make friends (I don't get out much). But unfortunately, it's mid-morning during the week on days I have to work. Hopefully it will take off and they'll offer an evening class, or maybe on a Friday when I'm off!
Kwik Kwik I think having someone there to help will be great. Not only will they be able to help, but it might relax your tension simply by having someone to chat with while you work. :)

I think so too.... it is something I hope I can change the habit of,not that I have any knitting habits yet but I have a habit of gripping tightly,I grip my pen and press hard- tightly grip tools, brooms and everything, always have.... I wonder if that has something to do with it?

I'm the same way. I was putting a huge grip on each stitch because I was paranoid the whole thing would fall off the needle. Keeping things loose and relaxed made it so much easier to make progress.

Well, Phoebe and Daisy told Lila and Sarah that the ball of yarn suddenly sprang into the air and tried to run away, but, they made it stop.

Oh ,I see- makes alot of sense

I asked Max and Sami if Lila or Sarah mentioned anything about watching out for any potential yarn escapes- they said " yes" so they are all on patrol now because Pheobe and Daisy both told them it happens pretty frequently- yarn is very sneaky and you must be vigilant
