Bump side of anus after anal gland expression

Hi I’ve had my cat’s anal glands expressed quite a few times but this is the first time I see this inflamed sort of bump afterward. This was also the first time the ER did it as ai had to go there and they said it’s pretty rare that they do it there so I’m not sure how versed they are in doing it correctly. Should I be concerned or is it likely just inflamed/irritated and it will go down? It’s the bump on the right side of anus

It’s understandable to be concerned, especially if this is the first time you’ve noticed a bump after your cat’s anal glands were expressed. While some mild inflammation or irritation can occur after the procedure, especially if it was done by someone less experienced, the bump could be a sign of local trauma or swelling.

It’s a good idea to monitor the area for the next 24-48 hours. If the bump starts to decrease in size and your cat isn’t showing signs of discomfort (excessive licking, scooting, or straining), it might just be temporary irritation that will resolve on its own. However, if the bump increases in size, looks more inflamed, or your cat seems in pain, it’s worth consulting your regular vet as it could indicate an abscess or infection.

In the meantime, keeping the area clean and dry can help. Warm compresses might also soothe any discomfort. If you're unsure, a follow-up with your vet for peace of mind is always a good option.

Appreciate the reply, I’ll keep an eye on it. First day he was licking it a decent amount after bringing him home. Yesterday didn’t seem bothered by it at all wasn’t licking it, it was just visibly as the picture showed.
