our stray cat Mr Tibbs finally decided to move in with us eArlier this year after two years of feeding him. So we called out the vet to give him a check up.

First thing we found out was Mr Tibbs is actually Mrs Tibbs :) about 4/5 years old not in the best health and had a dose of cat flu. She gave her a antibiotic injection and gave us steroids and to help her get over it.

But in the space of 3 weeks she has lost a awful lot of weight and from her chin right down her belly her fur has fallen out and also around her neck but it's as if it's been shaved because it's almost in a straight line.this is a before and after picture
The vet is away at the moment so we have stopped the steroids and antibiotics that she prescribed because we really think they are doing more harm then good.

What we were hoping to find out is does anyone have any home remedies or home recipes that might help her build her strength back up rather than drugs.

Any help will be gratefully received it's so sad that after all this time as soon as we get her in the safety of our home this happens.

That looks like maybe she lay in some sort of chemical.  You could try applying coconut oil (has both antiviral and antibiotic properties) and see if that helps. Last year, I had a semi-feral get attacked by a raccoon and she acquired some sort of awful bacteria or virus that did not respond to antibiotics nor any of several ointments that the vet prescribed.  It was a fluke that I gave her the coconut oil- she was begging for it and ate almost a full teaspoonful (the vet approves it's use for cats, both orally and topically) so I applied some to one area of her infected/inflamed skin and overnight it smoothed over and had fuzz growing!!  You can also try to consult a holistic vet about herbs; slippery elm concoction for both inside & out might be recommended, as well as chamomile and possibly calendula.

Bless you for taking in Mrs. Tibbs - she looks like she is going to be a happy addition to the family!

Thank you for your kind words and advice. The vet has said we need to fattening her up and has suggested Brussels Pate because of its high calories but maybe coconut oil will work too. It's worth a try anyway if she doesn't like it I can try using it!

Make sure the coconut oil of coldpressed, organic style. cheaper brands dont works as well. Its only the oganic style which has the really good properties. Its also somewhat soothing of inflammations, so the idea is good.

Used internally, not more than a few drops, as oils are also somewhat loosening. They are used as anti-constipation...

You can surely use it on the outside too. At worst, she will lick it off.

If salomonella in eggs isnt no problem at your area, raw egg yolk is good. Easy to digest too. Some nice vitamine pasta.
