For a few months now my cat has had this large brown spot on her nose. When I asked the vet about it she said it was probably a stain from food. I tried to wipe it but nothing comes off. I feel like since her last appointment about a month ago it’s gotten darker. It’s not raised, scabbed, oozing or painful to her. Does anyone know what this could be?? She has another appointment in a week so I’ll get it checked out again but it worries me🥺

Hi
I don't like the comment of it "being a stain from food", that just seems rather dismissive.

Is your vet clinic cat-only?

Hi. At first blush, given what you describe, I would not be terribly worried. Ask your vet to once again address it since it should now be obvious to them that it is not staining from food. I would start taking pics so that you can actually document changes - if not for this vet visit, then for the next.

Maybe this article will be of benefit?

It’s been a couple weeks now, the vet gave me some antibiotic ointment which lightened her dark mark a little bit. I’ve been using it for almost 3 weeks now and her nose won’t lighten more than this and she’s getting a sore in her nostril along with what looks like maybe brown boogers? Is this common with a respiratory infection? Or does anyone have any other ideas what could be going on?

I am not sure, but maybe she needs more than an ointment antibiotic? It would seem her condition has progressed given the nasal sore and brown discharge. A vet re-check is in order to see what they think about why the ointment didn't work - or wasn't enough.
