I have two kittens, 5 months and 8 months. I’ve been noticing lately that the younger always has broken/short whiskers on one side. What’s going on here?

The other cat has full lovely whiskers. Is she nibbling his whiskers off? I tried to photograph it. He has almost no full size whiskers left on that side! (I think even few than a couple days ago when I took this.) but his other side is normal (just one bent whisker).

Thanks everyone!
It bothers me, but doesn’t seem to bother him. So I guess I won’t worry too much.
I don’t know if he other cat is eating them or it’s just rough play breaking them. I haven’t ever caught her chewing his whiskers, but she does groom him and they do wrestle hard!

Where do you think?
Some cats are a bit zealous when social grooming. Not much you can do about it really and if it hurts or they've had enough they will let each other know.

Did you ever figure anything out about this? I've noticed my 3 cats (all littermates) have been having this problem over the last few months! Google tells me they have something medically wrong so it's worrying me!

Hi and welcome to TCS. The OP has not been on this site since 2021, so there is a pretty limited chance they will respond.

How old are your cats? Are they spayed/neutered? If your cats are truly related (since you said they are littermates), ask your vet if there are any tests that can be run to see if this is a hormonal issue or perhaps a nutritional deficiency. That might be accomplished by simple CBC and Chemistry blood panels. A nutritional deficiency could be related to some sort of food change you may have made a few months back. It could also be environmentally related as well, so if there have been changes in your home, like cleaning products, just to name one example, that could impact them as well. Whatever it is, it seems it could be connected to their genes since all three of them are having the same issue.

Until you know more, I wouldn't get overly concerned, as causes like those I listed above can usually be treated for resolution.
