Please excuse the untidiness in the background. Betty was lounging on the kitchen side when Oliver wandered up to her. He then looked her in the eye and made himself as tall as he could before lying down with his back to her. I could tell he was saying, "I'm the boss." I think he was indicating that he was 'the main man' and for her to remember that. Do you agree?

Does it mean anything by him choosing to have his back to her? Is it just more of the being boss thing?

I am by no means an expert, but I would say it’s nonagressive but confident.

Our cats (who we are still working on integrating) do similar poses when they don’t want to leave the area, but also don’t want to attack whoever was there first. Gohan (grey and white) was in the room and Olive (tortie) wanted to join but she didn’t want to get into anything.

Not quite as badass as Oliver laying across the counter, that’s pretty awesome. I think he’s being a bit more assertive and in charge.
