I haven't posted in awhile because my cat's been doing well. But this morning I saw something that alarmed me.
I found several pieces of his poop that were very dark and stinky. He's had pooping issues off and on over the years but nothing very serious for a very long time He's on Laxatone, Miralax and an antacid.
I've been trying to get him to eat canned food for years with limited success and finally found a flavor of Fancy Feast that he adores. Pumpkin seems to be eating more of that than his dry food tbh but maybe it's just me.
Lately it's been a battle to get him to take his medicine. I have to grind his antacid and mix it in the Laxatone along with the Miralax. He used to take it willingly for quite awhile but there have been times, esp. recently, where I have to force him to take it by wiping it on his paws. I don't know how else to do this.
This morning the poop I found was partly in his litter box with a couple of small pieces nearby. This isn't unusual for him and has happened in the past when poop would stick to his butt and fall off wherever. I even found a small piece in one of his beds.
I'm including a picture. Sorry about that....it's gross but I need to verify if this is normal. They appeared to be black but when I put them on a wet wipe I could see brown.
Pumpkin has been known to eat his litter for years and I don't know why. A friend once told me it's due to stress and I hope that's not true because if it is, it would probably be due to many issues I am going through with my incompetent doctors and very serious health issues I'm having to deal with.
I was always scared that the day might come where I'd find that he's having a medical emergency and I might not be able to find a way to get him to the vet (I' in a wheelchair and have no car) and tbh, I don't have the money for another medical emergency. My budget is tighter than ever.
I don't know what to do and I am scared for my baby. Pumpkin seems to be eating ok but as a senior cat, probably around 14 or so, has been sleeping more than when he was younger. He's not acting sick. Btw, I just plopped him on his scale. He weighs 9.7 pounds. At his vet appt last June he was 10.2 pounds. It's only five ounces. Should I be concerned about that too?
Please help! I am now not just scared about my health, I am scared about his. He's not acting sick at all and was trying to get my attention while I typed this.
