Hi
my cat suddenly got black dots on his tongue. The dots were very dark at first so I took him to the vet. He barely checked the cat and did not give me an answer to be honest. Thedots turns brighter and move sometimes and sometimes they even disappear. Has anyone experienced the same thing with their cat?

Here the dots just disappeared. He got them again but alot brighter and smaller.

Black Tongue Spots??

Usually these are just pigmentation from the melanocytes in the cat's skin. However, we can't diagnose your cat or tell you that is exactly what these are from a picture. Your vet should have had a discussion about this with you and brought up these kinds of spots. If he is a good vet who just lacks social skills, I think you could assume that your cat is fine or he would have said something? Can you call him back and ask if they are likely to be harmless pigment?

I would seriously consider that he is licking something that is sticking to his tongue - especially since these dots come and go, as well as move. Dirt or other forms of debris from outside - or even inside the house? Something to do some of the types of food he eats?

Thank you both for your answer. I tried to change his food but it didn't help, but it does not seem like it hurts him when he eats and drinks. It could be just pigmentation, I don't know :/.

My cat has had this. They move, disappear and reappear too. I think it’s just something they can get from licking something that gets caught on their tongue. My cat has been checked out by multiple vets and a feline specialist over the last year, nobody has ever commented on these dots.

Thank you so much for telling me that!:D Does your cat still get these spots or not anymore?
