Coworker came in and said his daughter called him last night in a panic because she found her newly adopted 11 year old cat dead. Not sure if it suffocated or had a heart attack due to panic but it died with its eyes and mouth wide open like it had been screaming. Said it got its body stuck between the mattress and bedframe and couldn't get itself out. Daughter is devastated and vows to never get another animal again.
I can't imagine finding that and thinking how scared that cat must have been and how long it suffered like that until it finally died. Check your mattress and bedframe to make sure there is either no room for your cats to do this or there is enough room for the cat to easily squeeze itself down to the floor. I am thankful that I only have a headboard and there is no way for either cat to get itself between it and the mattress. I will have to check on the side tables though to make sure they are far enough from the mattress that they won't cause a problem.
