Yeah, I once read about a cat who was strangled by a stretch collar (not a Beastie Band; one of the old kinds with an elastic insert) and so I'm a little suspicious now. I actually have an old Beastie Band that is really ratty so I probably won't use it again (that's one reason I don't like them that much---they get nasty-looking from being scratched), maybe I'll do a stretch test with it.
I just recently started putting collars on my cats again, but I just get the cheap safety-pop collars---$10 for a 12-pack---from Amazon, so I don't care if they get lost or scratched up or chewed by the dog. I know they release well because I've tested them and also they sometimes come off when the cats are wrestling.
