my cat pumpkin had her back left leg amputated today, the vet gave her back to us in a dog onesie to keep her away from the stitches. she's very resistant to cones and keeps ripping the one we put on her off (its one of the inflatable circle ones), but when we put a hard plastic cone on her she freaks out and gets angry. we would just let her be cone free and just wear the onesie but then she has no way of using a litter box. and our fear is that without the onesie she'll lick and pull at her stitches. we don't enjoy the idea of forcing her to wear a hard plastic cone, but is that the best choice?

I have a cat with psychogenic alopecia (fancy name for ripping their own fur out due to allergies or just boredom). I tried many onesies and cones and the one that finally worked is a soft cone. It can be flipped inside or outside. I usually leave it flipped inward toward the body so he has some peripheral vision. He can eat, drink, use the litter box and see just fine--he just can't rip fur out.

Hi. I would keep her in a crate with a low sided litterbox using shredded paper instead of litter. I would use a hard cone turned the other way so she can’t get to the stitches but doesn’t freak out. Make sure to keep up adequate pain control. And if needed sedatation.

My daughter put her cat in a H harness and attached the cone to that because he could get out of his cone. It worked for her. Maybe it would work for you too. It was a hard plastic one attached needed it because he had eye removed and stitches in his good eye lid.

it's okay, she had diarrhea last night and got that all over the place, and then she threw up this morning, shes still in a good mood though. i tried a soft cone turned the other way so that she couldn't get to the stitches and we thought it was working , but shes been able to get to two of the stitches, which is upsetting. she's also running low on meds, she supposed to get her stitches out Friday so hopefully they last till then. I think we're gonna try a hard cone turned the other way and see if that works. wish us luck.
